Coleman ITrinklex WE DEDICATE W ith the turn of a new century. 1050 marks pin sieally the beginning of Crittenden County High School. The consolidation of the first county high school. Frances, with Shady Grove. Mattoon. and Tolu made possible the new school. The early founders and teachers taught principles of truth, and thoroughness of preparation for life s work are still the guiding standards of the consolidated school. The Shamrock pictures illustrate the surface changes which time has brought. Tin- fixed things that remain are written in the minds and hearts of all the students who have attended schools in Crittenden County. From these strong foundations Crittenden County High School has reached to embrace new projects and achieve a better basis for education. The future years will not be easy, each new milestone of progress will include new difficulties. The 1055 graduating Senior Class moves on. each to complete the individual milestone of his existence, each urged by the inspiration given to him by those who were continually striving to obtain higher education for him. The 1055 Shamrock edition is dedicated to those early Founders of education. School Trustees. Teachers. Parents and Citizens of Crittenden County who have given unselfishly of their time and energy to the building of a greater Crittenden County High School completes tin- picture of a well organized school for the hoys and girls of Crittenden County. EDITOR BUSINESS MANAGERS ADMINISTRATION Mr. Brinkley, Connie Tucker and Ann Hushing looking at desk where Stephen Collins Foster penciled My Old Kentucky lloinc. Students of Crittenden are offered rare and inspiring friendships with the faculty. The whole atmosphere is one of congenially and trust. Vi ith the largest number of boys and girls enrolled in vocational courses of any school in Kentucky . . . the aim is to find each student's talent and abilities. The school believes in friendliness, under- standing and peace: it achieves it by cooperation and loy alty . One of the highest aims is to guide each of its students into this belief: to endow them with that security which will be a real and living thing wherever life may lead after they leave its halls. bhaxton McDonald Superintendent of Crittenden County High School Superintendent McDonald is nearly always found behind his smoothly polished desk or steel cabinets which hold the records of Milestone progress in Crittenden schools. He lives and works with credits, balance sheets, records, bottles of ink, pens and pencils. He likes this like—old books, and black coffee. Versatility, scholarship, and service typify Mr. McDonald who represents Crittenden High at its loftiest milestone. Serving longer than any other member of the school, he has achieved the consolidation of the County High Schools and an accredited faculty selected to guide students to adapt themselves readily to the ever-changing situations they must face after graduation. With tact and judgment he administers the many problems that confront him. LOUIS LITCIIFIKI) Principal and Athletic Director Crittenden County High School The students have gained great benefit from their talks with Mr. Litchfield. I nder his guidance they are able to make their own decisions in doubtful matters. 1 hex appreciate having Mr. Litchfield as principal during their academic life in high school. The team has found him a basketball director whose judgment and ideals they respect. Fair in his methods, he is respected and admired for his straight-forwardness. Each student meets Mr. Litchfield at the beginning of his first milestone at Crittenden High and requirements for graduation bring many conferences with him during bis four academic years. Mr. Litchfield is the last person the students meet as he presents them as candidates for graduation to Mr. McDonald, who. in turn, awards the coveted diplomas. The entire school is proud of their mentor. COLEMAN BRINKLEY Commerce B.S.. Murray State College HAZEL BRINKLEY Mu-ic. Health BALE.. M.A.. Murray State College MILDRED PERRY CHIPPS Mathematics. Mrs. Croft, and Mrs. Chipps, the Freshman class struck a new high this year. This is the largest class ever to enter Crittenden High, with handsome Donald Champion as Class President, with Vice President Billy Beaver s originality, and enthusiastic Naomi Hodge as Secretarv. The beautiful girls like Joan Hurst, Doloras Beard, Marilyn Wheeler, and Phillis Perryman truly show the upperclassmen that there is nothing to the “green freshman” talk that you hear. School life at Crittenden is the result of thoughtful and alert consideration of the needs of the students. When Mr. McDonald presented the diplomas with a smile of approval for each one, and the Seniors walked from the dais, their thoughts were of two classmates John Pickens and Bobby Williamson who are in the service of their country. And their memories were of first days in high school, class picnics, skating parties, drive-in movies, basketball games, banquets, clubs, and special celebrations that were so much a part of their lives in the past four years.
