I just thought I'd call and tell you about the most wonderful trip I took. It was certainly exciting Gertie! I'm rather tired, but I'll tell you all about it if you would like to listen. Where all did I go? Why I went so many different places, I hardly know where to start. Did I meet any- body I knew? Why Gertie, you would never believe it, but I met all my 57 classmates. Just think, 10 years have flown by since graduation! First, I got my ticket at the Wapakoneta Air Port, you know, the new one. Well, who do you think sold it to me? No, LINDA MILLER. She certainly knows a lot about those far away places. She said she is enjoying the best of health, and is very satisfied with her work. Iboarded my plane, and you would never guess who occupied the seat next to me. It was KENNY NUMBERS, I-Ie was on his way to play in a professional basketball game at Boston, for the Boston Celtics. He is so handsome, Gertie, can't you imagine how he looks on the playing floor? WOW! Oh well, I'd better go on now. I had a wonderful flight to California, but I was glad to leave the plane. As I was walking off the run- way on my shaking legs, who should I bump into, but a MAN. Honest Gertie, a MAN in uniform. Taking a second look, only because glances can fool a person, I saw it was JUNY BEEMER, He mentioned he was making a career out of the Navy, and was' on his way back to Lima with his wife and family. ---It certainly must be nice to be an officer. I was hungry by now, couldn't eat on the plane, so I was about to get a sandwich when I met MARTHA MYERS and she asked me to eat with her in one of those big-big-big restaurants. Over lunch, she told me she did missionary work for the poor people of San Francisco, and that she finds this work very rewarding. She always was the kind to help others. Martha asked me if I'd seen CAROL WERLING. You know, she's changed her name now. Well, nothing to do but to go chat with Carol. She was very glad to see me, and welcomed an old friend. Carol has a very modern home, and the cutest twins l've ever seen. They both have red hair, but no freckles. She is very happy. After seeing California, I took a train back East. On the train I met FRANCES GRAHAM. She is enjoying a wonderful term with the 6th graders at Milton Elementary School in Kansas. She told me that DANNY SNIDER was a very successful farmer out there, so when the train pulled in at the Kansas station. I took a taxi to his farms.. He told me he was a wheat farmer, and I could see Frances was right about him being successful. Gertrude, you should see all the modern machinery he has on those farms! When Iboarded the train again, to finish my journey, who should I meet, but WALTER ARMES. Walter told me he was on his way to play his baritone and sing at the Pittsburg Symphony Hall. You know, Gertrude, I always knew he had a great talent. When we arrived at Pittsburg, I left him to meet CLETAH DUDGEON. We drove to her small, but modern home in the suburbs. She told me all about her wonderful job as dietician in the new hospital out there. Of course, Gertie, she has changed her name somewhat but she is still the same wonderful person she used to be. My next stop was New York City. I had heard from Cleatah that GLENN HASTING was an executive for Westinghouse there in the city with his offices in the Empire State Building. When I went to see him, he told me of his fine family. Glenn has become very important to Westinghouse, and he likes his work real well. He also mentioned the wonderful couple living next to them. It was none other than SHIRLEY LOWRY and DEAN PIERSTORFF, When I went to see Shirley, she had just gotten home from a busy day at the office, I inquired about her boss, and she told me it was her husband, Dean. Dean has his own business as lawyer in this big city. When Dean came home, she had a wonderful meal prepared, and invited me to stay, Dean talked about his work, and he said he is very happy. I could see he and Shirley were both successes in this big city. I left them later that evening, for I had reservations on the evening plane to Miami, Florida. I6. When I arrived, it was mid-afternoon, and I decided to go for a swim. I went to my big hotel, and who should I see typing behind the counter, but DORIS WERLING. Now Gertie, I've seen girls in movies with beautiful sun tans, but she has the most beautiful one I've ever seen in person. She had on very mod- ern clothes. When I asked how she was, she said just great. She works in this hotel as private secretary to the general manager. She holds a very important position here. She told me of another fellow classmate who was in Florida. She said he was on the beach, Gertie, so I put on my new swim suit, and headed for the beach to meet a man. I didn't see anyone I knew on the beach, so I decided to take a swim first. When I got out so far, I realized I didn't know how to swim in the first place, and started to go under. I yelled for help, and when I came to on the beach, there was the lifeguard giving me artificial respiration. I would have liked to do that all over again, Gertie, because he was really handsome. When I was seeing better, I recognized the lifeguard. I-le was BILL HINEGARDNER. I asked him what he was doing out here, and he said he is a top artist for the biggest newspaper in Florida. I guess lifeguarding is his pastime. I-Ie has a beautiful bronze tan, that I'll remember always! I! When I was breathing better, I went back to the hotel and rested. I stayed there only 2 days, then headed back to Ohio, where my plane landed in Columbus. Like every woman, Gertie, I heard of a sale at a new store in Columbus, so I naturally decided to go. The name of the store was Madam Wolfe's Paris Selections. I was browsing around when I saw a sign on the door upstairs that said Madam Martha. I thought I'd just like to see this Madam, so I went up and knocked on the door. It opened, and who did I see sitting in the office, but BEVERLY LOWRY. She really was a beautiful sight with her long blond hair, and wearing a Paris selection. I asked her what she was doing here, and she said she was working as private secretary to a classmate. I asked who, and she said walk in and see. I went in the next door, of course, and who was it, but MARTHA WOLFE! She is the manager of this new store. Her office is so big and modern, that it makes me wonder why I didn't do something with my life. All three of us went out to dinner that evening, and talked of their success. Martha said ifI ever needed clothes, to call. But Gertie, you know what I'd look like in a Paris selection, Ugh! I've gained too much weight in ten years. The next day I decided to rent a car and drive back to Wapakoneta. I looked through the car rentals, until I found one that said: If you are looking for a car, truck, bus, or jet, just come see me, Jack Winget! Well, Gertie, you guessed it. It was that witty JACK WINGET from our class of 5'7'1 He showed me all his cars, and said he was really making the money. He certainly has a good business head on him, Gertie, I guess he is married now, and has four children. It must be nice to be married, although I wouldn't know. I finally picked out a 1957 Eldorado convertible, and headed for Wapakoneta. When I was almost home, I guess I got anxious and put my foot on the gas too hard, anyway I was doing 90 when I heard a siren. I stopped and the patrolman stepped from his car. I thought I'd had it, until I looked at him in the face. Why Gertie, it was NORMAN KIRCHNER. I-le began writing me a ticket, when I started inquiring about his life since 57 . He said he was a first-class patrolman and now has a wife. He remarked, since he knew me and since he thought one warning would be enough, that's all he would issue. He sure looked slick in that uniform! When we parted, he gave me a last warning, and I was on my way home once again. 1 I arrived home, just in time for a wonderful demonstration of Singer Sewing machines. I was look- ing them over, when I thought I recognized one of the demonstrators. When I moved closer, I saw it was CAROL THOMAS. She can really sew, Gertrude. She told me she makes all her clothes, and even designs some for special occasions. She enjoys her work very much, and is living a wonderful life. lguess that's all of them, Gertrude. Don't you wish you could have been with me to see them now as career people? I-lello--Hello--Gertrude? Are you still there? Oh well, I guess we got cut-off!! !! STUDENT COUNCIL This has been an active and interesting year for the Student Council. This was the first year in which we operated under our new constitution which was drafted by the Student Council, and passed by the student body last year. The Student Council has sponsored many activities during the past year. The activities are as follows: A clothing drive for World Clothing Week, a Christmas offering for Hungarian relief, a citizenship award, set up the assembly and school party schedule, printed basketball schedule cards, and proposals were made and passed to help give the student, in coming years, better opportunities. The members of the Student Council were Walter Armes, president, Dean Pierstorff, vice-president, Carol Werling, secretary and treasurer, Pearl Armes, Jim Sproul, Sandy Berry, Roger Fox, Melinda Simon, Philip Wauben, Darrel Kohlreiser, Mirian McCain, and Mrs. Dorothy Dupler, advisor. The election of Walter Armes as President of the Student Council gave him the honor of being the first person in the history of Cridersville School to be twice elected President of the Student Council.
