Just like all the rest of the high school grad- uates, we start reminiscing about the past years. One night I get very inquisitive and dug back twelve years. I thought perhaps the rest of m class- mates and the readers of our 1952 WLest we 'Forget' would he interested in what I found. Way back in 1950, nineteen students entered the Cridersville first grade. Frightenedt Yes, at 'least most of us were. But we had an understanding teacher, Miss Wanda Geist, who passed us into the second grade. This class was under the supervision of Mrs Ilo Harshman. In this grade, we added one to our class, Ronny Porter. Our teacher seemed to be just as patient, because at the end of IQUL we were another rung higher. In the third grade, we lost one of our starters, Charlene Beery, who moved to Lima and attended Roose- velt school. Miss Helen Hall was our teacher and we probably were beginning to drive her crazy, so she passed us on. At the beginning of our fourth year, we regained our loss. Charlene came back to our school, and was also being taught now by Miss Donna Jean Stevely. Under Mrs. Yvonne Wauben, who was our fifth grade instructor, we had one loss and one gain, which kept us even. Ronny Porter moved to Lima, and attended Jeffer- son school, and our gain was Bob Davis from Uniopolis. Still under the guidance of Mrs. Wauben in the sixth grade, we gained back our fifth grade loss. Ron moved back to our town. Our teacher must have had quite a struggle preparing us for iunior high. Oh boy! we had the time of our lives, going up- stairs and exchanging classes and teachers. Did we ever think we were something! Miss Ruth Hankish was our home room teacher and we also get three new stu- dents: Gay Keller from Elida, Dorothy Parker from Lima Washington, and Sam Howell from Shawnee. Miss Amy Armand was our eighth grade home room teacher and with the help of the rest of the teachers, she prepared us for our first year of high school. In the eighth grade, Helena Ritt from Perry and Dale Smith from Spencerville joined us, making our class a total of nineteen to enter high school. High school was so much fun! We looked forward to the Freshman Intiation very much.. We also presented our first class play nAlibi Ei'ln under the direction of Mn Robert Crites who was als- our home room teacher. We gained one new student this yenr. She was Dorothy Staas from Lakeview. In our sophomore year, we had a new advisor, Miss Norma Gene Mack. We, and the juniors, nrescnted our second class play, nBrothers of Belindan, under the direction of Mr. Stanley Weller. Our junior year, advised ky Mrs. Maxine Fry, was another year of many memorable events. One of the big- gest events was planning the Junior-Senior Prom. This year we also sold candy at the basketball games and at school. Our class play, UValley of Ghostsn, directed by Mrs. Fry, was the first mystery we had ever pre- sented, and it was a big success. This year, our final one, is the year we have all worked hard for. Mrs. Dorothy Dupler, who came back to Cridersville twelve years ago, when we started to school, was our advisor. Without her assistence, many of our tasks would not have been comnleted. Our class play, WAll American Familyn, directed by Mrs. Alice Cox, was a very huge success. Now that our school days are ended, I an looking back over my classmates who started to school at Cridersville and have gone the whole way together: Shirley Roser, Glenn Smith, Gene Deifendeifer, Charles Rohrbacher, Gwynn Coon, and Harriet Wolfe, and those wholeft and came back and the new students we obtained: Charlene Beery, Ron Porter, Bob Davis, Gay Keller, Dorothy Parker, Sam Howell, Helena Ritt, Dale Smith, and Dorothy Staas. As we leave dear old Cridersville High School, we wish all our classmates that are behind us, the Best of Luck throughout their entire school days. Maxi G71 NNRX X' X' f fig!! Today I will try to catch up. Just four more weeks and I graduate from here with my degree. Then, in a very short time, I complete the second step in m life. Just think I am going to be married! But for some wonderful news! Do you realize that just five years ago today, I left Cridersville High and came out into the world? Perhaps it was coincidence or Fate had it planned, but in the last week, I have heard or been in contact with all my old classmates. Monday started out the same, I being one of the nurses at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. I was going to a staff meeting when I received a very pleasant sur- prise. Who should be walking toward me but Dorothy Barker and Dorothy Staas. They had entered nurses' training the same year I did, but at a different hospital. Of course, we had kept in contact with each other, but who would ever imagine that they would be here, today, with me? After exchanging greetings, they explained they had completed training together and had been sent to St. Luke's for some advanced training, then they would go back. That evening we gathered in my room and had a long talk about all our good old tives. It seemed that Shirley Roser now Shirley Schlegel, had been to the Dorothy's on a purely business call. She and John are now the proud parents of a charming baby girl, Karen Annette. I ask what had happened to Glenn Smith, Dorothy Parker answered this, of course. Glenn, after finally making his choice of school the had the hardest time picking onej went on to really study and was going to graduate this year. From all reports, he was doing fine and wasi graduate with high honors into the field of engineering. That evening we went out for dinner and I took themim a modernisticlittle restaurant where Sam Howell, still plugging away, was working himself up from an ordinary cook to a very exclusive chef. Perhaps with a little more work he may someday own a restaurant. Tuesday, while going on my rounds who should I see sitting beside one of the beds, but Gene Deifendeiferl He was visiting a nice looking young man who was only in the hospital for a highly annoying upset stomach. It seems the varsity playing finally paid off. Gene, now a coach for the huge and highly famous Cridersville Rams basketball team at Cridersville had brought his team to Chicago far a tour br winning ihe state champion- ship. Cwe always knew Cridersville would make it, didn't we?J Tuesday evening Dorothy Parker, Dorothy Staas, and myself were given time off until Friday noon. What did we do, but go back to Cridersville and see if we could complete our circle of fifteen members. As we drove into Cridersville who should pass us in a patrol car, but gon Porter. It must have been a secret ambition because we never knew, did we? Perhaps studying cars fRemember those research themes'D in school helped. We all stopped and talked for a while and Ron explained he was going to the other side of Cridersville to see that everything went off a1.rigHsin the huge fann demonstration. we followed Ron and where did he take us but to the beautiful farm of Dale Smith. He always wanted to remain on the fann and for him he was anply repaid for his work, After coming back into Cridersville, we walked down Main Street to see the changes which had occurred. The number of new houses which had developed since our graduation was astounding. Charlene told us that she had received a letter from Qay Keller just that day before. It seems Gay, happily married and the manager of a darling home had gone on to college after graduation and had studied to be a teacher. She had moved backtc her old home school, Elida, and was teaching the fifth grade, CPerhaps Mn Weller's advice and talks in chemistryc aided in this choice.j Charlene, after urging fit didn't take muchl us to stay, showed us a perfect evening and then took us to the station. We arrived back in Chicago around noon Thursday and we went right to the hospital. On our way we passed a large insurance firm and I remembered Charles Rohrbacher. He had graduated from one of the better engineering schools in Chicago just a few months ago and already he had make a place for him, self in the firm. CMrs. Dupler's math classes.J He is working himself up into the position of head insurance engineer for the firm. On arriving at the hospital , we each went to our own room andto my surprise I ibund a very welcomed btter from Harriet Wolfe. fftemember when we had our office jobs and Harriet did most of the typing?J She is now the private secretary to the president of one of the large business establishments in Chicago. She always wanted a job such as this and with her experience per- haps pretty soon she will start her own business, Clt just goes to show that typing does pay off.l In the letter was an item from the Lima News that announced that Gwyg fDudeJ Coon was opening his new garage. He is married and has a beautiful home on the outskirts of Lima. CI guess the experience he gained from fixing his own car finally turned into something worthwhile.l with his experience and willingness to work he will probably start a chain of garages. To complete the day and week, as you might say, I picked up the paper last night and whose picture was on the front page, but Robert Davis! The article gave a very complete story of Bob. On his large farm near Wapakoneta, Bob has been raisinglzeautifiiliiolstein cat- tle and today he reached his goal. His cattle were hs-ing shown in the International Livestock Exposition and he won! I guess his arguments about Holstein being ihe best type had some foundation. with this, my week is complete and from this I have had a glimpse into nw old class mates' lives and from all views it seems as if everyone has succeeded. If perhaps in the next five years we may each ad- vance as much and keep in touch with one another, we can get together and have a reunion and compare our lives with our ambitions and find we have succeeded. Diary, I have written until I can hardly see and still have letters to write. With all my news exausted, I hope you will excuse my mistakes and forgive me for not writing sooner. I must stop now and get ready for night duty, and I promise to write tomorrow. Good night for now. 3JJ,QM, . ,A-Q - I Cm film if-l ,Dey X! X! i 1..
