The participants in Freshman sports, with three new coaches, up- held an old tradition of winning as they displayed a combined 14-4-1 record. If present trends continue, Cre- tin should again be a power in the CCC football race, due to the un- defeated Frosh football team. In coach Rick Smoliak's first coaching assignment at Cretin, his little known Raiders sported a 6-0-1 record. Freshman Basketball also had a winning season thanks to Derham Hall. This very busy and hard working band proudly represented their school not only at as- semblies and games but also carried the name of Cretin to literally thousands of people at their Winter Concert and the 50th Anniversary Concert at the St. Paul Audl- torium. Recognized as one of the top high school bands in the state, they also performed out of the state when they presented two concerts in the Chicago area.. A new and colorful addition to the band is the Los Amigos, a take-off of the Baja Marimba. Very popular, this band, led by senior Kevin VonFeldt, performed at the Father-Son Banquet, Mid-Winter Dance, and the Cretin Talent Show. Other bands that stem from the Cretin Band are the Concert Band, the Stage Band, the Pep Band, the Dance Band, and the Marching Band, headed by band Major Thomas Volpe. Band, bottom row: M.
