I I I gullies ' Sixty years ago a young man of sixteen entered the community of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Along with saving his own soul, the main object of his prayerful life has been helping young men to become more Christ-like. At Cretin, where he spent twenty-one of his sixty years as a Brother, he this year celebrated his Diamond Jubilee, commemorating sixty years as a Christian Brother. The man so honored is Brother Sylvester, who is well-known to Cretin students as the retired Brother who is always so ready with a radiant smile and a friendly pat on the back. ' Modest about his many accomplishments, Brother Sylvester knows that although from a material standpoint the Brothers' work is a thankless one, spiritually it is a work that is very rewarding. Although with his teaching and administrative abilities he would have been successful in almost any field, Brother sacrificed whatever material success he might have achieved to perform a work most dear to Almighty God. Educating, guiding, and directing young men' during that most critical period of their lives, adolescence, - that is the work to which Brother Sylvester dedicated his life. After a long life in the work of Christian education, Brother now derives much satisfaction from his experiences and his life work, but in many ways he is an unsung hero. Yet the honors of men are short-lived when compared with an eternity of divine glory. We salute you, Brother Sylvester, for your life of love and sacrifice, and we acknowledge the great debt we owe to men of your caliber. 4- --, V A X, Q wg i 1'- . . all r. K '32 r 19
