Sixty-eight years ago, God breathed His warmth into eternal nothingness and created a soul, an unselfish spirit that was to serve Him for fifty years as a Christian Brother. Dur- ing his twenty-five years as a teacher, assistant principal, and guidance counsellor at Cretin, Brother Lawrence Walter perfected his motto of Service in the time-tested spirit of sacri- fice and love that characterizes his order. It was on a February afternoon of this year that God saw fit to draw this loving spirit back into the boundless bosom of eternity from whence it came. Brother Lawrence Walter served his maker well. His intricate system of personalized guid- ance counselling, famed among educators, will leave its mark in the eternal sea of faces adoring God, and only then will Brother Wal- ter receive the fullest measure of reward for a iob well done. These words will wither and fade with the passing of time and generation, but the spirit of a man who labored so zealously for his boys can never and will never rest. To you, Brother, who kneels before the throne of God, we, the Class of 1959, lovingly dedicate this book to your unselfish spirit, and hopefully pray that your soul, free of its body's shackles, will continue to guide and bless us forever in our faltering labors.
