SCHOOL LIFE OF 53 The many actuvmes of our school year of 53 began wlth the F F A party for the F H A on September 26 which proved to be very enloyable On the mght of October 2nd our Mlxed Chorus sang several selectlons at the Annual Dmner meeting of the Trl County DIVISION of the lllmols School board Association at the Morruson Hotel In Chicago The mrxer dances held by the Seniors In the gym will always be remembered On October l8th the Senrors sponsored the annual Home coming Dance and Parade ln the Homecommg game our team scored a vrctory over Dyer That mght at the dance many famlllar faces of old grads were seen dancing to the music of Henri Buttell The band parents sponsored a cakewalk ln the gym on October 25th On the mght of November 14th the .lunlors held their dance wlth the theme Harvest Hoe Down Entertalnment refreshments and scads of fun were had by all On December 7th Mr Wolf presented the annual Christmas concert with glee clubs mlxed chorus and band partlclpatnng The F H A held thelr traditional Chrlstmas Corner on December 19th where they sold cookles candy popcorn balls etc On the evemngs of December 22nd and 23rd our school participated ln the Morrls lnvrtatuonal Basketball Tournament Although defeated on both nights our team gave both opponents a good battle The Sophomores presented thenr class dance on February 6th with the theme of a Mardi Gras The alr was festive and the muslc wonderful The FHA Mother Daughter Banquet was held In the cafeterra on February llth and the F H A Style Show was held March 6th Both were a success On March l2th the Seniors gave theur play Seventeenth Summer In a matinee for the grade school students and on March 'l3th and 14th the regular presentation was gtven lt was very successful The dlstrrct hugh school solo and ensemble music contest was held on March l4th at Downers Grove Four of the entries received fnrst dlvlsron ratings with recommendations for the state contest On March 2Oth the Freshman class held therr dance an the gym wlth theme Bunny Hop They actually drd the bunny hop and a lot of fun was had by all those who attended The band gave thelr sprung concert on March 27th On Aprll l'lth the dlstrlct music organlzatnon contest was held here for bands choruses and glee clubs with many schools from this area partlcupatlng On Aprll 24th the eighth grade gave their play Cheaper by the Dozen and on Aprll 25th the IUHIOYS presented the Junior Sensor banquet with theme Gay Nlnetles At the banquet the turkey dusappeared quickly and before we realized nt the whole thrng was over On May lst those who had recelved flrst state at the drstrlct contest partucnpated In the state music contest The climax of the year was the tradltlonal Jumor Senror Prom The theme was Wlstarla The Seniors spent the day decorating for the bug mght out at Lmcolnshlre Country Club On Sunday May 24th was the Baccalaureate Service and on May 29th the commencement exercises were held for graduating Sensors This year was a full and happy one that none of us wall ever forget 8 0 - - ll ll ' . . . , ' ll ll ' ' f I 1 ' . . .
