SOPHOMORE HISTORY On September 5 1939 thlrty young people now promoted to hlgh school bounded through the doors of Crete Hlgh School eager to begln thelr stud les ln new flelds of knowledge They proved to be a very actlve group wlth the1r entertalmng and partles They started the year off wlth a bang by the amusmg assembly program w1th kltchen band and all The off1cers of the class were Presldent James Crlbbs V1ce Presldent Gerald Luecke Secretary Dorothy Wallace Treasurer Crystalbelle Von Engeln and Program Cha1rman Isabelle Apkmg wxth MISS Florence Mc Coy as sponsor The representatwes on the Student Counc1l were James Crlbbs Vernon Stelber and Isabelle Apkmg Bv September 3 1940 the 1939 freshles had accomphshed enough that they were ready for the second stepplng stone IH thexr hrgh school careers There were thlrty two sophomores showmg an mcrease of two smce 1939 The offxcers for 1940 41 were Presldent Albert Duensmg V1ce Presldent Dorothy Wallace Secretary Treasurer Isabelle Apkmg Soclal Cha1rman Lucllle Koemg w1th M1ss Elxzabeth Smxth as sponsor The representatlves to the Student Counc1l w re Albert Duensmg Cord Hecht and Crystal belle Von Engeln To start the year off a Halloween party was held wlth pumpkms cats ghost and all ln February a St Valentlnes party was sponsored Jomtly w1th the Jumor class It proved to be a great success w1th danc1ng and seasonal games for entertalnment The sophomores were very actxve 1n chool organ17at1ons and well represented 1n sports throughout the year FRESHMAN CLASS HISTORY Pres1dent Jerry Rvce V1ce Presldent Helen June Helme Secretarv Treasurer Earl Bremer Socxal Cha1rman Thelma Harms Student Counc1l John REUZI Carolvn Luers These were elected class offlcers of the Freshman class for the year of 1940 1941 chosen at the fxrst meetlng of the year Further meetmgs brought Mr Paul ln as class advlser At a later class meetlng Melvln Meler was elected as Student Counc1l member IH place of John Renzx The act1v1t1es of the class durmg the year mcluded a Chrxstmas party on December 10 1940 when every one raced around town on a treasure hunt Wlnners rec 1V6d prlzes and later there was an exchange of glftS and re freshments were served On February 21 1941 a class partv ln the celebrat1on of Washmgtons blrthday was g1ven w1th games danc1ng and refreshments Durmg the latter part of the vear three new members were welcomed xnto the class Thev are Delores Wllkenlng from the Beecher Hlgh School Marvln Teske from Beecher Hlgh School and Clarence Dowlmg from the Curtlss Hlgh School of Chlcago 27 v 1 , .
