glut .giagoofi PART OF FIRST HIGH SCHOOL 1882-1890 AND FIRST BRICK HIGH SCHOOL 1890-1918 In 1875 a system of grading was introduced. ln 1880 D. B. Perry suggested having the High School separated from the Grammar department. A room in the academy was rented for the High School pupils as Merrill Hall was now taking care of the college group. In 1881 block 158 on Eleventh Street was bought for 3825.00 Owing to the increase in enrollment a new building scorned necessary and more economical than renting the academy. In 1882 the first High School, a frame building was built on block 158 at n cost of 63,174.60 and used until 1890. It has been moved to Thirteenth Street and is known as the City Hall. In 1888 bonds were voted to build a new brick High School. This new building was ready for use the early part of 1890 and meant High School to the classes gradu- ating from 1890-1913. Page Ten
