FOOTBALL Creswell Hugh produced one of the strongest teams un uts hustory un l953 The Bulldogs wuth head coach Bert Burr at the helm funushed the season after wunnung fuve and losung three games Creswell started slowly by losung a tught game to St Francus and then beung overwhelmed by Oakrudge Tney took an easy vuctory from Oakland then dropped a I3 I2 contest to Draun the leagues champuons The Bulldogs then reached theur peak and took favored Wullamette Pleasant Hull Elmura and .lunc tuon Cuty to clumax theur successful season Tackle Larry Lawrence was selected for the all league squad furst team whule Duck Kretten quarterback attauned second team ratung Lmemen Bruce Belshaw Ray Hollemon and Duck Kunslow receuved all league honorable mentuons Backfuelders Ron Bessonette and Warren Walker receuved the same ratung BASKETBALL Creswell s basketball team had a slow start un l953 54 They started by droppung several close hard played games They found themselves at mud season and went through eught straught games wuth out a defeat Included un these were theur sux Duvusuon 2 Dustruct 6 games By wunnung the dustruct champuonshup they gauned the pruvulege of competung wuth Eugene Wullamette and Oakrudge for the Dustruct 6 champuonshup at McArthur Court The Bulldogs were elumunated from the tournament un two games but theur sportsmanluke play wuth strong backung by the student body gauned them the tournament Sportsmanshup trophy Bob Bauley Joe Burrus and Duck Kretten made the Duvusuon 2 all star team and Vern Bates re ceuved honorable mentuon Captaun Burrus led the duvusuon un scorung wuth 362 pounts whule Kretten followed closely un second place and Bauley was fourth Coach Bert Burr s furst season at Creswell netted hum hus furst champ onshup team for the school The uunuor varsuty coached by Vern Huebert played well throughout the season and was vuctoruous un a good share of theur well played games BASEBALL The baseball prospects for l954 at Creswell Hugh seem very good Wuth all but three lettermen returnung thus season the Bulldogs are able to fueld a strong team As the Crescent l954 goes to press the Bulldogs are seated un second place un Dustruct 5 A 2 They lost 4 2 to Wullamette then won over Elmura Pleasant Hull and Junctuon Cuty to gaun theur second place ratung Duck Kretten wuth help from Ron Dersham and Bob Taylor carry the brunt of the putchung chores Warren Walker Vern Bates Ron Dersham and Bob Taylor compruse the unfueld whule Bob Bauley Tony Moen Vurgul Kuvet and Joe Burrus are the outfueld regulars Bull Thomson wuth Duane Maddy s help has been doung the catchung for the Bulldogs Vernon McCluskey Charles Harrold Edwun Walton Tum my Bates and Bob Rand have also seen actuon so far thus season TRACK Wuth the Crescent l954 goung to press un the early sprung a full track and baseball account could not be obtauned However the prospects for unduvudual achuevement are excellent although the over all outlook usn t the best Everett Gruffuth Bob Bauley Bull Thomson Bryce Olson and Duck Kretten are returnung veterans who should do very well un theur respectuve fuelds Duck Bonebrake Albert Henderson .lum Sartelle Ed wun Walton Warren Walker Vern Bates Gerald Nuckels Bull Carpenter and Jerald Anderson are other ospurants Warren Walker Sports Edutor ' 1 I . . . . . - u 1 ' 1 ' 1 1 - - 1 1 1 1 ' 1 - . . - I I - 1 1 1 ' 1 1 , . 1 - 1 ' . . , . . . . . 1 1 , . , . 1 1 1 , . ..... u 1 ' 1 1 ' 1 1 1 ' , . . , - . 1 1 I 1 ' 1 1 1 ' 1 I 1 1
