aii Cheerleader Chris Lahym congratulates this year’s Homecoming Queen, pretty Nancy Gaszi. Homecoming doesn’t phase Guy Gismondi one bit—he’d rather be where the girls are! Three cheers for the Varsity Cheerleading Squad! Diane Cornila, Lynn Kasza, Chris Lahym, Sharon Dinsmoore, Pat Cekala, Mary (“Chip”) Chipala. Cheering is rough on the throat as the parched cheerleaders can testify.

THE CHARGER CHEERLEADERS Crestwood prides itself on the skill and agility of its cheerleading squads, and this year’s squads have been awarded the 1969 Downriver League Cheerleading Championship. (Standing) Miss Marina Vossos, Adviser, Varsity Cheerleaders Chris Lahym, Diane Cornila, Lynne Kasza, Mary Chipala, Sharon Dins- moore, Pat Cekala, Adviser Miss Justine Murray. Kneeling are Junior Varsity Cheerleaders: Nancy Davidson, Sue Diebel, Denise Hall, Lynda Brewer, and Andrea Kandilian. The main function of a cheerleader is to help promote school | spirit and student interest in all sports here at Crestwood. | The cheerleaders spend an average of six hours a week practicing and cheering from early July to the spring of the following year. They | lead sideline chants through football, cross-country regionals, basket- ball, and track, doing an outstanding job. The year was cloaked with many honors for the ‘68-69 squads. For their participation in the Tri-River League Competition the var- sity squad placed second, and the junior-varsity took a first. At the First Annual Downriver Invitational Competition, Crest- wood was judged top squad of 20 competing schools. They placed first in four categories, and took a second and third in two others. Sharon Dinsmoore represented the Varsity squad in individual com- petition, placing first and Linda Brewer placed second for the Junior Varsity in the individual competition. This accumulation of an outstanding number of points enabled the Crestwood Cheerleaders to win the Grand Trophy and the title of Downriver League Cheerleading Champs for 1969. 96

Mary Chipala (1.), Lynne Kasza (background), Sharon Dins- moore, Pat Cekala (1. front), Chris Lahym, and Diane Cor- | nila (foreground) exhibit the prize-winning style and grace of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad. Big smiles characterize the members of the J.V. Cheering Squad. From right to left the smiles belong to Nancy David- son, Denise Hall, Sue Diebel, and Andrea Kandilian.
