Since the nucleus of the atom is the center of all energy and activity, it can be compared to the energetic student body. The academic and extra-curricular activities can very well be likened to the whirling elec- trons which surround the nucleus. Thus we have the Creston Atom. In this 1955 Saga we present pic- torially for you this Creston Atom: The Nucleus: The Student Body The Electrons: The Student Ac- tiyitics '7aJ-le ofeanienifi Senior Section .... But it was just like yesterday when ---. How trite and yet how very true. For it seems only yesterday that we first entered Creston. Some of us came as seventh-graders, fresh from grade school, eager and willing. More came in the eighth and ninth grades and still others joined us periodically throughout the years. We came from all over, from city schools and country schools to the school on the crest. And as individual as we were, we learned to become one, a welded, hardwork- ing class. Even as freshmen we showed that we were a class with true initiative by beginning the annual St, Pat's Prance. As sophomores we continued our activities by presenting the rollicking Daisy Dip with its beautiful Eif- fel Tower. We first experimented in demo- cratic living as sophomores, too, when we elected our first class officers and become known as the class of 551' We didn't even stop for breath as we plunged into our junior year. First there was the Harvest Hop, then the Amateur Hour and that colossal Junior Revue. And an end to all ends, our lovely Junior-Senior Prom in the.Black and Silver Room of the Civic Audi- torium. We looked at the seniors present and said, Next year it will be our turn. And then our turn came. A glorious senior year! It started with the election of a dazzling homecoming court and the co-spon- sorship of the Homecoming with the Alumni Association. For our project we chose to buy new curtains for the stage and we worked hard to earn the money by sponsoring the Mid-term Mingle and many other projects. We kept them in stitches with our hilarious senior play, Money Mad! With the always generous help of Miss Lois Conrad our play packed them in and sent them away saying, Marve- lous! Our Senior Banquet at Second Con- gregational Church and Senior Dress-up Day brought our year to a close as we readied our- selves for commencement itself. And now it is over and we look out into a whole new life. Our years of fun and friend- ship have drawn to a close and we must now leave our home for so many years. But truly, it did seem only yesterday. The assembly was a big success because of its originality. Class ollicers elected for the year were Chuck Unseld, President: jo Wfooten, Vice President: Ruth Visner, Secretaryg Katie Davis, Treasurer. The annual Harvest Hop dance was based around the theme, Autumn Noc- turne. The highlight of the dance was the intermission in which a king and queen, Bill Anderson and Barb Wetzel, were chosen. The class also sponsored some of the dances after the football and basketball games. The Mistress and Master of Cere- monies for the Amateur Hour were Diane Stolorow and Chuck Unseld. The best acts were taken from the Amateur Hour and displayed in the junior Re- vue which used as its theme Around the XVorld. The Revue was a great success and the class enjoyed putting it on. X'Ve wish to express our gratitude to our advisor, Mr. Martini VanYVingen, for his helpful guidance through our junior year at Creston. It was a wonder- ful year - a year we, the juniors of '55, will never forget. A 4? NVickett. Mr. lN7ickett has been the prin- cipal of Creston lor many years and has truly become a part ol' t.he school. The students always find Mr. Wickett willing to support the annual events at Creston or to back any new ideas that he feels will contribute to a well- rounded education at Creston. The protons and neutrons ol this nucleus represent those people who help in the job of keeping our school on its orbit: Miss Dorothy Lawyer, assistant principal: Mr. Lowell lNlcDougal, per- sonnel directorg Mr, Orlo Scoville, Ull- ant oflicer: and the two clerks, Mrs. Ruth Voshel and Mrs. lXlargaret Marvel. Last, but not least, we have the teachers here at Creston who, like elec- trons, revolve around the nucleus ol' the school. Wfith the coming of the lall season several new teachers arrived at Creston: Mrs. -Ioanne England and Miss Peggy Smith, home economics teachers: Mr. Harold lferinga, seventh grade teacher: and Miss Elizabeth Schneider, English teacher. Between semesters Creston received two more new teachers: Mr. David England, math and history teacher: and Mrs. Edith Doerr, home economics teacher. Mr. Richard llow- land, retail selling teacher, also re- turned to Creston alter a semester's absence. During this past year everyone at Creston lelt a great loss with the deaths ol Mr. Robert Linden and Miss Lila Koch. 5 X ll?-,I Huw s Ruth Yoshel 4 ,J-'M' Orville Scmille Miss Dorothy Lawyer x .- iz-iigig Mr. Lowell McDougal ,ffl 'L.4- and Miss Norrimuflkgncs ? Instead, 1 shall seek the higher purposes and the new adventures that lie beyond. 1 shall reach ever outward to the horizon that is always just beyond my grasp. These words are known as the desire of all Horizon Girls. The insignia of the Horizon Clubs, pictured above, is the crossed logs and flame of Camp Fire with three inoun- tain peaks on the horizon. The three peaks might well represent the girl's three great objectives: friends, Hne per- sonalities, and service to others. To attain the first of these objectives, Horizon Girls hold dances, hayrides, social parties, teas, and house-parties. Various clubs have at their group meet- .ff ,sms-nw 01464 ings speakers who talk on developing better personalities and character traits. Giving service to the surrounding com- munity is an outstanding characteristic ol Horizon Girls. They work in hospitals as Hospital Aidesg and serve on coni- niunity drives such as Cancer, Red Feather, and Red Cross. Nearly every group helps Ollt some laniily at Christ- nias and Tlianksgiving. This year the Horizon Clubs at Cres- ton donated the llowers lor the llower- well in the front hall. They will also care lor the llowers in the following years and replace any that die. Although Horizon Clubs are an out- growth of Camp Fire, any girls without Canip Fire experience are especially welcome. -N. Jfafugan AN-IM-AT-O l'rl:s. K. Sweet Viciu Prcs. ,I. Korn S011 M. They played hard in every game, and it wasn't because of the lack of desire that we lost most of our games this year, stated Bob john- son, head basketball coach. The 1954-55 Polar Bear basketball squad compiled a three win 14 loss record this season while playing with nearly an all junior squad. Creston's three wins came at the hands of Central and South in city-league play, and Mus- kegon Catholic in non-league competi- tion.
