Jim was a member of the Hi-Y, Camera, and Science Clubs. You always saw Therese Kersjes smiling over the counter down at jopps . Trese did her bit in the Hiker's and Library Clubs. Quiet and serene, Virginia Lee Kiel ushered for the junior Revue and was in the Girls' Meet. Virginia's special interest was music. Rodney King came from Union High in the twelfth grade and was active in the band and Latin Club there. Rodney, who made friends fast, was on the business committee of the senior play. Millie Klomparens was a member of the choir, Courtesy Squad, business committee for the senior play, junior Revue, in Gloria, president of the Senior Girl Reserves. Student Council, and A.B. Earl Knutson was neither absent nor tardy for one and a half terms. Earl was on the Courtesy Squad, in Junior Revue, on the tennis team, and belonged to the Hi-Y and senior ushers. This scene from the Creston-Ottawa game shows the Ottawa punter getting off a successful kick. His team-mates having stopped the onrushing Bears, are now going down under the punt. Mary Kooiman, a quiet and friendly member of the class, was a member of the Red Cross, and Hiker's Clubs. Mary was especially interested in commercial courses. Bright eyes , Ilene Koon, ushered for the one-act plays and Gloria. llene was also on the properties committee for the one-act plays, and one of the office assistants. Jocular Tom Kraai was in the choir, junior Revue, junior Amateur Show, senior play, Gloria, and was Sergeant-at-arms for the Hi-Y Club. Tom's special interests were swimming and sailing. Oh, those beautiful eyes-Mary Kriplean came to Creston in the eleventh grade from Gladstone High where she was a drum majorette for three years. Tiny and talkative was Amelia Kurth, who was neither absent nor tardy for one year. Amelia earned her letter in A.B. Club and was a member of the Hiker's Club. Gertrude La Botz, who was an usher for the junior Revue and senior play, was the possessor of an infec- tious smile and a cherry personality. She was a mem- berbof the Senior Honor Society, Library, and Hiker's Clu s. Keith Larsen, a quiet but friendly boy, found ma- chine shop and typing to be his favorite subjects, Ivan Lawyer was especially active in the band and orchestra. He also served on the Courtesy Squad. Friendly and fun was Bette Lee, who was in the one-act plays, senior play, junior Revue, Footlights and Latin Clubs, and on the Courtesy Squad.

Jean Hodgins proved that good things come in small packages. jean was a member of the Courtesy Squad, the Saga staff, and senior ushers. She also ushered for the junior Revue and was a member of the Senior Girl Reserves and Amicitia. Hattie Hogendyke was a good student and a serious one. She was active in the Courtesy Squad, Sr. Honor Society, Library, and Latin Clubs. Happy-go lucky Shirley Hohendorf was always ready to laugh. Shirley was in the junior Revue, one-act plays, senior play, and a member of the Senior Girl Reserves. This good action shot from the Catholic game shows Burt Brown carrying the ball around left end for a nice gain. Ahead of him, Tom McGee effectively blocks out a would be tackler. Friendly and nice to know was Betty Hoogerhyde. Betty served on the Courtesy Squad and was a mem- ber of the Library Club. Carefree Beverlee Howard appeared in the junior Revue, and belonged to the Courtesy Squad, Echo staff, and Senior Girl Reserves. Bubbles was also secretary of the junior Class. Orville Hoxie, the tall tenor and all around grand guy, was active in the junior Revue, senior play, Gloria, athletics, choir, debate, Saga, and Courtesy Squad. Orv was a member of the Hi-Y, Student Council, and Senior Honor Society. Friendly and fun to know was Pauline Hubrecht, who was active in the Courtesy Squad. The life of every party was jovial, original Pat Impens, a member of Senior Girl Reserves, Amicitia Club, A.B. Club, and both Junior and Senior Honor Societies. She appeared in the junior Revue, Gloria, and was staff secretary for the Saga. A very popular and more prominent member was Neil Ingersoll - president of the senior class, business manager of the junior class, and president of the Hi-Y. Neil was also active in football, senior ushers, Senior Honor Society, and the War Council. Always on the go was Donna Johnson, who was a member of the Echo Staff, Hiker's Club, Latin Club, Girl Reserves, and senior ushers. She assisted on com- naittees for the one-act plays, Gloria, and the senior P al'- Pert and business-like was Maude johnson. Maude was especially interested in home economics. Although Donovan Joslin did not take part in many activities of the class, he was nevertheless a welcome member. He was particularly interested in machine shop. With a smile for everyone, Marjorie Kahler did her part for the class by ushering for the senior play, dancing in the Junior Revue, and serving on the Courtesy Squad. Marge was also a member of the Library Club. Jeanette Keiser, being interested in home economics, found little time for extra-curricular activities except the Courtesy Squad. No performance was complete without a dance by Shirley Keller, who was active in the one-act plays, junior Revue fdance instructorj, junior Amateur Show, Echo, Saga, and the senior play fassistant direc- torj. Shirley was a member of the Senior Girl Reserves, Spanish, Footlights, Amicitia, and both honor societies.

Mary Louise Lettinga was in the Junior Revue, one- act plays, senior play, Courtesy Squad, and the Echo staff. Mary was a member of the Hiker's, Library, A.B., and Footlights. A sweet loyal friend was Leslie Lewis, who partici- pated in debate and speech, and was a member of the Courtesy Squad, and Hiker's Club. Endowed with a calm, sweet charm was Laura Lindsay, president of the Senior Honor Society, on the Saga and Echo, co-ordinator of war council, and a member of senior ushers, Hiker's, Junior Honor Society, and appeared in the junior Revue. Always ready to laugh was Doris Mc Clain, a mem- ber of the Hiker's Club, A.B. Club, Student Council, Senior Girl Reserves, senior ushers, and Courtesy Squad. She also appeared in the junior Revue. Although considered quiet by many of his class- mates, William McClymont was a fine fellow. He was doorman for Gloria and a member of the R.O.T.C. and Bars and Chevrons. Dorothy McCormick had original ideas and a sense of humor. Dopey found interest in the Latin Club, Senior Girl Reserves, Horizon Club, junior Honor Society, Courtesy Squad, and choir. Right: three Creston alumni in Service. Donald E. Broene who enlisted in 1942g Sgt. Howard L. Reed, who took part in the Buna campaign, later hospitalized in Australia: Cpl. Richard L. Williams, class of '59, entered service in 1942. Barbara McGarry had a contagious smile and giggle. Barb appeared in the one-act plays, and junior Revue. She was a member of the A. B. Club, Hiker's Club, and Senior Girl Reserves. An amazing athlete was this Irish lad who blushed as often as he smiled, and that was most of the time. joe McGee was on the track team, basketball team and captain of the football team. This grand sport was also a member of the Courtesy Squad and C Club. jovial, yet business-like, Robert Marlett was a well- known member of the class. A major in the R.O.T.C. and president of the Bars and Chevrons Club, Bob was also in the Junior Revue and a member of the Courtesy Squad, senior ushers. and Official Color Guard. Charming, poised, and just plain sweet was Joan Marquardt, viceapresident of the Junior Class, presi- dent of Latin Club, president of Library Club, a mem- ber of Footlights, Amicitia, A.B., junior and Senior Honor Societies, she still found time for debate, Courtesy Squad, senior ushers, Student Council, and appeared in Gloria and junior Revue. Mary Masters was fond of Journalism. Her Echo work consisted of reporting and advertising. She was also a member of the Latin Club. . Bill Maycroft will long be remembered for his dramatic work in the senior play and one-act plays. He appeared also in the junior Revue and Gloria, and was a member of the Courtesy Squad, senior ushers, choir, Latin Club, and golf team. Quiet and shy, but a wonderful person to know was blond Roger Meeusen. james Melcher, a good student as well as an all- round good fellow, belonged to both the junior and Senior Honor Societies, was head doorman for the junior Revue, and was interested in mathematics and science. Blond Erma Meyers was a smiling, happy-go-lucky girl which made her a welcome member to any party. HX!-l v-dl 71'
