This year Kathy Brotherton received the Arion Award. This Award is given to the most outstanding musician in the CHS band. Those receiving Division I ratings in the annual state music con- test were: three flute soloists, a clarinet soloist, two French horn soloists, one alto sax soloist, two flute trios, a clarinet trio, a woodwind trio, a sax quartet, a trombone quartet, a brass sextet, and four vocal soloists. Kathy Brotherton received a I+ rating on her flute solo. Phil overly-protective mother, and Connie Hawks as his secretary and girlfriend had leading roles in Bye Bye Cunningham as Albert, Mia Dehopere as his Birdie . With a time of 45.5 they were rated number seven in Southwest Iowa and were third in the conference. EDDIE JACKSON, conference title winner in the 100-yard dash, was Creston's fastest sprinter, his best time being 10.3. JACK LYNN heaved the shot 52' SM to set a new school record. Undefeated in the conference, he won the Hawkeye Seven title for the second consecutive year. The two-mile relay team turned in the Sth best time in Southwest lowa and was third in the conference. Creston Girls Win State Golf Title In play this year the boys' golf team won two invitational meets at Red Oak and here and placed second in meets at Atlantic and Shen- andoah. They won three dual meets and bowed in one to Red Oak. In the districts they ranked second taking them to state, where they placed eighth. The girls' golf team had a winning year. They were undefeated in their dual meets with Osceola, Red Oak, and Atlantic, placed first in districts, and brought home the state championship trophy. After winning the conference title, the team received the Hawkeye 7 Conference Champions' trophy. The Panther baseball team, coached by Ron Clinton, went to a roaring start and ended as well. Throughout the summer the boys played 29 games winning 23 and losing only 6. After capturing their Hawkeye Seven title, they won their sectional tournaments pushing them to district play where they were defeated by Shenandoah. The junior class officers head- ed a rousing class of 68 . School spirit rose as the juniors headed many activities. Gim- micks such as blacked eyes sym- bolizing the juniors would rather fight than switch , and neckties that proclaimed tie up a victory were examples of junior ingenuity and enthu- siasm. The juniors netted a S850 profit toward the 1967 prom from their class play. Gathering at Christmas time, they distributed food and fruit baskets to nursing homes and needy families. As the future seniors look back to their jun- ior year, they can be proud of activities well done. Although science courses are Verna's main academic interests, a consistent ability in all high school classes gave her the position of Salutatorian of the Senior class. RONALD ARLIN GORDON Ronnie was in FFA for two years and helps his father on their farm. He enjoys wood- working in which he has made a gun case, shelves, and a coffee table.
