These points may be accumulated by ap- pearing in plays, working backstage, handling ticket sales, publicity, properties, taking speech, or working on the Junior Town staff. Two initia- tions are held annually. The first was held No- vember QO and the second in the spring. Creston High School Troupe 697 has as its purpose the advancement of dramatic arts. It highlighted holiday celebrations of the English, French, Germans, Scandinavians, Germans, and Americans. The last half ot the concert was based on the Biblical version of the Christmas story, climaxed by HandeI's Halleluiah. Robert McCowen, director of choral activities at lowa State College, was guest conductor ot the annual Music Festival held January 23 and 24. ln addition to Creston, 15 visiting schools were represented. Creston vocal groups also took part in the yearly spring concert, and also, ensemble and large group contests held at competition centers throughout the state. Page Sponsor: RECKNOR'S Our Creston High School Band began 35 years ago on March l, 1922. At that time the band had 40 members. They had two rehearsals weekly, directed by Clifford H. Johnston. Now the band has 90 members. It is directed by R. Jack Mercer. The full band rehearses four days a week. Sectional rehearsals are held on the fifth day. The band is governed by the Band Advisory Council, a group of seniors who help determine band policy and plan band parties. The purpose of the band is to represent our school at festivals and concerts and for the pleasure of the students playing in it.
