Uhr Sverurre iltlag On December Zlst the Hrgh School was the recrplent of a beautrful servrce flrg bearrng the stars representrng the members w ho have left therr Hrgh School course to serve our nation lhe flag was presented by Lloyd Perry rn behalf of the Senror class and the heartfelt apprecratron of the school was vorced by Wrllrim Bell follow rng are the speeches As thrs rs the last year rn the Creston Hrgh School for the Senror Clrss rt grves me great pleasure on behalf of thrs class to present to the members of the school 1 Servrce Hag to remrnd us of the boys that have left our ranks to do therr brt rn the mrlrtary servrce of the Cnrted States We are assembled here thrs afternoon rn honor of these boys of whom there 1re erght Walter P ones Charles McColl Norman Allen C-all Schrader Harland Parker Wendell Faulk Walter ones and Myron Danrelson Thre of these boys Walter P ones Charles McColl and Norman Allen were graduates of the 1911 cla s Wlrrle rn school they were all well liked by therr classmates and many frrends C hrrles and Walter were both good football men and when they were called for border servrce we lost two of our best men for that season Norman although he drd not play footbrll drstrngurshed hrmself as yell master and showed hrs abrlrty as a leader He w as also busrness manager of the Annual when he w as rn the unror Class When these boys left rt was wrth deep regret and sorrow that therr many frrends brd them goodbye fhey have seen about srxteen months of actrve servrce as they jorned Company C w hen that company was organrzed some trme ago Not many weeks after their enlrstment they were called rn une l9l6 for Mexrcan border servrce We all remember that Sunday when we brd the boys goodbye and they left for Camp Dodge After remarnrng there for four weeks they were sent to Texas for border servrce Cpon rherr arrrv al they were stationed at Brownsvrlle Texas just across the rrver from Mexrco ln anuary l9l 7 we recerved word that they were returnrng to Iowa and home On the evenrng of February 28th they returned to Creston and were greeted by a crowd of n arly frve thousand people Although having been through just erght months of ser vrce they were rn the best of sprrrts While on the border Charles was transferred to the Medrcal Corps of the Thrrd Iowa Infantry After losrng over half of therr Senror year rn School Walter Charles and Norman returned and took up therr school work and graduated wrth their class Srnce that trme there has been qurte a change and now they are over there Some where ln France wrth two other Hrgh School boys Carl Schrader of the Sophomore Class and Harland Parker of the unror Class Carl was w ell lrked by hrs many frrends He enlrsted during the last of May and completed only hrs frrst year of Hrgh School The sprrrt of the trme was too much for hrm and he enlrsted as bugler rn Company C Now he rs one of the best buglers rn the l68th Infantry although the youngest Harland completed two years of Hrgh School work before he enlrsted and now he rs a member of Company C We remember hrm as a star on the football team at the post tron of center where he was a valuable man and hrs never falling sprrrt to go lnto a game and fight to the fmrsh But now he rs rn a much larger game and we can well depend upon hrm as he has told us before to do hrs doggondest rn gorng over the top and on to Berlrn Ir has been less than three weeks srnce we lost three others members of our classes Wendell f'aulk of the Senror Class Walter Jones and Myron Danrelson of the unror Class fhese three boys have errlrsted to do therr brt ln the Avratron Corps of the Unrted States Army whrch wrll take a great part rn the near future rn thrs war 0 nv v K ' ' 4 . 1 . . .
