Last year's entire starting Freshman team was promoted to the Varsity, so sopho- more Coach Palen was forced to field an inexperienced team at the start of the sea- son. He was still teaching his starters fundamentals when the season was half over, but the team finished strong and nearly defeated Capuchino in the final game. On offense Terry Christman and Don Broga turned in many fine plays at guard and end. In the backfield Rich Tonini at quarterback, Carl J arvinen at halfback, and Juris Dumpis were the most consistent ball carriers. On defense Bill Hall and Ken Decker were outstanding. Crestmoor Mills Crestmoor San Mateo Crestmoor Aragon Crestmoor Capuchino Crestmoor Hillsdale A look at the record traces the fine progress Coach Brown's team made as it gained confidence and experience. After two initial losses it tied Aragon, 0-0. Aragon went on to win the conference title and post an undefeated season. Then the team ended the season by defeating Capuchino and Hillsdale. The teams biggest asset was their defense: ten times during the season they made successful goal line stands. Outstanding backs were Mike Garrett at quarterback, Ernie Hall, Barry Raymond, and Don Wright at halfback, and Dave Jordon at fullback. The linemen were led by Vince Repetto and Don Roberts at ends, Jeff Wolfe and Don Walrod attack- les, Tele Aumua and Steve Repalus at guards, and Mike Liar at center. These boys and the rest of the squad enjoyed playing foot- ball. They should have a fine future. F 'qs Qui: 4 .fl p , . 'W My ,, J A .,-:p,,f,f, , ,. .aww ., NW ' ,ai :iii ,mg f' TOP: P. Mathematics Department Everyone knows that schools must teach mathg after all, the day will come when students will have to balance checkbooks and budget incomes. But ad- vanced math provides bright students with the op- portunity to embrace new and unusual careers. For example, the field of jelly bean counting draws many students who have mastered Pascal's Theory, square root, and logarithms. And each summer the San Joaquin Valley hires hundreds of third and fourth year math students to measure the circum- ference of wrinkled raisins. Safely fducaiiau One of the most intriguing and daredevil classes any student or teacher can participate in is safety education. Here teachers become well-versed in the ability to operate the emergency brake while suppressing screams of terror. Students, mean- while, become exceptionally skilled in the ability to frustrate and petrify the teacher at every inter- section. At the end of a semester's driving course, however, students conduct themselves as seasoned veterans of the highway, much to the satisfaction of the pedestrians of San Bruno. MARY SMITH: But burning toast is htunan na111re. FRANCIS ROBINSON: Whoever reaches the intersection first Wins l Home ffcauvmics One of the most interesting Lmits taught in home economics is toast burning. Some of the slower students never learn, time and again their slices pop out of the toasters looking as golden brown as the hills of California. The A students, however, produce toasted delicacies ranging from crisp, lightly charred to crusty, brittle ash. Then the girls garnish with margarine and proudly sample their taste tempting treat. Mr. Musser faithfully conducts the squeaks and squawks of broken reeds and untu.ned pianos. Industrial ,Arts Behind the grinding wheels and whirring gears, the Industrial Arts Department prepares young boys for the role of future husbands, whose wives will pester them to display their fantastic abilities as handy- men and carpenters. But first Mr. Frazer Mr. Smith, and Mr. Cane must instruct their charges in the elementary art of hammering nails and planing 2 by 4's into 1 by 2's. Then the boys learn clothes soiling. Mom forgives them their oil and grease spots, however, when they reward her with the fruits of their labor. Girls' Physical diucatiau One of the most recent addiijons to the curriculum of the female Physical Education Department is jacks. On dreary, rainy days, the gym floor is scattered with jack masters ranging from the queen who can go straight through her tvvosies without a mistake, to the clod who never leaves her onesies. Many frown upon this be- cause it is not physical enough. On the contrary, jacks provides both physical and mental exercise. The development of finger and wrist muscles is truly a physical exertiong and the strategy involved in planning each move is most challenging to the mind. However, on sunny days the girls desert the gym for the archery range or tennis courts. Ever try to drive a tennis ball into the wind? Y? ELIZABETH RETZLOFF: But if it Wasn't for the wind I'd have a bulls-eye. Bonnie Bauer Phebe Sandberg Don Richardson Ralph Daniels Charles Kent Hays' Physical Educalian A recent attempt to establish co-educational physical education classes met with mixed success. Much to the surprise of the in- structors, the boys kept their heads and acted like gentlemen. Then they proceeded to massacre the girls in each and every sport which was played. At the end of the unit, male nerves were on edge and female eyes were filled with tears. When the unit was over, how- ever, the girls garnered some revenge by peppering the boys with arrows from the archery range as they circled the track.
