Among the most popular of these activities are the A Cappella Choir, Student Council, Speech, H1-Y, Y-Teen, and G.A.A. Further more the interest which the school takes in looking after the education of the individual has provided better relationships between the two. In other words, it's up to you whether you want an education or not. Our present school has developed a wider activity scope including athletics, concerts, and operas. These tend to give the student a broader personality, character, and sense of leadership. D All of these advances in seventy-five years have added up to one thing. Education is a necessity in life. To enjoy it, relish it, and to use it instead of discarding it, is the only way to success. It is in this interest that we the Class of '48 wish new gains to Crestline High School, for only in our school life do we find the real experiences of life. We will always cherish them. . ' 'i75zA,-4 ' In the recognition of the 75th anniversary of our school, it is the desire of this annual to give a little history of the first school in Crestline compared with our present high school. The Crestline Union School, built in the l800's, was situated in the same block as our present building. One of the best designed and equipped schools of that time, it had eleven rooms with a capacity for five hundred students. When the school opened on April 5, 1869, the following nine teachers were hired: Superintendent and Rev. D. J. Fbust, William Robinson, Lydia Ogden, Blanche Eaton, Wallace Stahle, S.R. Waohs, Miss K. Stahle, M.E. Ogden, and Maggie White. Their average salary was S750 a year. The school, which ran on a three term basis of eleven weeks, had a first graduating class in l87l. Its five members were: Cynthia Gee Wilson, Josephine Snodgrass, Emma McKean, Anna Snodgrass, and Eugene McKean. In contrast, Crestline High School has today a fine modern school with good teachers, equipment, and courses which prepare a student for a vocation in life. Built in l950, the building has three stories and thirty-five rooms, which now hold 400 students with a yearly graduating class of fifty studentsg Teacher salaries average 32500. With the addition of new courses and activities, Crestline High School of l948 has become more interesting to the student. 4
