M 18773 D 1943 On the Seventy-fifth Anniversary of Crestline High School we, the Class of l948, dedicate this year's Panorama to the past three-quarters of a century of successful education in this fine school. Since its founding in 1875, our school has sent many young graduates out on their own to become good citizens of this nation. We are proud to be part of this school. May the coming years be as successful as the past. The Crestline Union School, built in the l800's, was situated in the same block as our present building. One of the best designed and equipped schools of that time, it had eleven rooms with a capacity for five hundred students. When the school opened on April 5, 1869, the following nine teachers were hired: Superintendent and Rev. D. J. Fbust, William Robinson, Lydia Ogden, Blanche Eaton, Wallace Stahle, S.R. Waohs, Miss K. Stahle, M.E. Ogden, and Maggie White. Their average salary was S750 a year. The school, which ran on a three term basis of eleven weeks, had a first graduating class in l87l. Its five members were: Cynthia Gee Wilson, Josephine Snodgrass, Emma McKean, Anna Snodgrass, and Eugene McKean. In contrast, Crestline High School has today a fine modern school with good teachers, equipment, and courses which prepare a student for a vocation in life. Built in l950, the building has three stories and thirty-five rooms, which now hold 400 students with a yearly graduating class of fifty studentsg Teacher salaries average 32500. With the addition of new courses and activities, Crestline High School of l948 has become more interesting to the student. 4 Among the most popular of these activities are the A Cappella Choir, Student Council, Speech, H1-Y, Y-Teen, and G.A.A. Further more the interest which the school takes in looking after the education of the individual has provided better relationships between the two. In other words, it's up to you whether you want an education or not. Our present school has developed a wider activity scope including athletics, concerts, and operas. These tend to give the student a broader personality, character, and sense of leadership. D All of these advances in seventy-five years have added up to one thing. Education is a necessity in life. To enjoy it, relish it, and to use it instead of discarding it, is the only way to success. It is in this interest that we the Class of '48 wish new gains to Crestline High School, for only in our school life do we find the real experiences of life. We will always cherish them. . We were no masterminds, but we did manage to get along at about average speed. In the starting of our Sophomore year, which in- cidently was l945, we trudged along under the guidance of our President Bette Kranerg our Vice-President John Garverickg our Secretary Robert Sandg and our Treasurer Donna Hart. Under their leadership we surmounted many obstacles. Our Junior year started out with a big bang with Paul Winemiller as our President, John Garverick as our Vice-Presidentg Ruth Simmermacher as our Secretaryg and Shirley Horton as our Treasurer. This was the great year of our Junior-Senior Reception which caused much grief planning for it, but enjoyment putting it on. We finally got to the place where we were no longer green like the Froshies. We led the younger members of Crestline High. In our final year were occasions such as the class assemblies, Senior class play, the Junior Senior Reception, Bacculaureate, and the unforgettable Commencement. Under the guidance of our class advisors, Miss Cover and Mr. Dewalt, our class officers John Garverick, Presidentg Donald Stover, Vice-Presidentg Virginia Smith Secretaryg and Edward Garverick, Treasurer, led us over our last obstacle--The Senior Year. 13 guyz 7 I 'V QQ OK: 0 0 5 -. 0- 90 -Q 0 N00 5 1 Qweyeq Qgccoww , QONQOQC . By Shirley Horton and Paul Winemiller, Jr. 24 a SENIOR CLASS SONG FOR CLASS OF 1948 fTo the tune of Serenade of the Bellsj Freshman, sophomvre, junior and then seniors, We have come this far along our way With the memory of Crestline High School We'll proceed along life's way. Scenes from our school life We'll always cheri 0f our teachers and our friends so true. With the fun and joy we had at dances, We'll proceed along life's way. Junior rings and senior pictures We have exchanged with all our friends. And now that we are leaving They'll remember us by them. Still the bell will ring for all our school ma But for us they'll never ring again. We'll remember all the scenes of school days, As we sadly leave Crestline High. This organization participated in the Christmas as- sembly which was given by the seniors, the Carol Sing , directed by Dr. Ernest Hesser, the Orchestra Festival at Gallon, National Music Week, the Senior Glass Play, and the Senior Recital. Their final appearance for the year was on Commence- ment Night when they played while the seniors marched down the aisle to receive their diplomas. The orchestra is composed of thirty-one members. There are nine violins, two vlclas, two cellos, three bass viols, a piano, three clarinets, two flutes, two cornets, one trom bone, two obes, two French horns, tympanny, and bells.
