The One Act Play was Mary Stuart. Marcia Karstens, STANDING, was Eliza- beth, and Mary was portrayed by Dianna Haack. BUENA VISTA MEET NELLIS DEPARTMENT STORE Early, Iowa AMES MEET Julie Ward, Jane Paulson, and Dianna Haack accompanied by Mrs. Miller the speech instructor attended this meet. February 8-9. Each person gave his speech three different times for three different judges. Everyone was divided into groups and ranked accordingly in his group. Julie spoke in the original oratory and extemporaneous divisiong Dianna spoke in the extemporaneous divisiong Jane spoke in the original oratory division and received third place in this division among all the students who spoke. SPEECH CO TESTS DISTRICT SPEECH CONTEST Twelve students entered the Northwest Iowa High District speech contest was February 21-22 at School Forensics meet January ll at Buena Vista College. The students entered in each division were: Julie Ward, Dianna Haack, Suzanne Wessen- dorf--externporaneous, Julie Ward, Dianna Haack, Mary Wadsley, Jane Paulson, Marcia Karstens, Corrine Smith--original oratory, Joyce Determann, Beth Nellis, Linda I-Iinde, Marsha Ashinger, Sally Bettin, Corrine Smith--interpretive poetryg Julie Ward, Mary Wadsley, Jane Paulson, Dianna Haack, Marcia Karstens, Suzanne Wessendorf--discussion. Ratings of superior, excellent, and good were given to the students. Lawton. Sixteen students participated in the contest The divisions Crestland entered were: dramatic de clamationg humorous declamationg interpretive poetry, interpretive proseg original oratoryg extemporaneousg story telling, public addressg play reading, one-act play. Ratings of I, II, or III are given. Those students receiving a I rating are eligible to go to the State Speech contest. Those students receiving I's are: Sally Bettin--dramatic and public address, Linda Hinde--interpretive poetryg Jane Paulson--original oratory, Julie Ward-- extemporaneous and public address, Marcia Karstens --story telling, Dianna Haack--public address.

LAKE VIEW CONCRETE PRODUCTS CO. ZADOW TRUCKING AND Sl-IELLING Lake View, Iowa Early, Iowa STUDENT CO UNCIL The Student Council is the Student government of the high school. On the council are two members from the freshman class and three members from the, sophomore, junior, and senior classes. The president of the council is also from the senior class. A representative is chosen from his class and serves a two-ye ar term. By serving for a two-year term, the council for the new school year is not composed of all new members. ' The council is in charge of all the Homecoming activities and any of their own money-making projects. Every spring it sponsors a clean-up day. The council furnishes every grade school pupil with a paper sack and he in turn decorates it, following a clean-up theme. The sacks an each grade are then judged by council members and awards of first, second, and third places are given to the winning pupils. For an hour in the afternoon of clean-up day all the grade school pupils pick up all the litter on the school grounds under the supervision of council members. When they finish, they are treated either to an ice cream bar of a candy bar by the Student Council. The following are the officers: President--Mike Brockmang Vice-President--Damon Mooney, Secretary- Treasurer--Jame Paulson. 48
