A representative is chosen from his class and serves a two-ye ar term. By serving for a two-year term, the council for the new school year is not composed of all new members. ' The council is in charge of all the Homecoming activities and any of their own money-making projects. Every spring it sponsors a clean-up day. The council furnishes every grade school pupil with a paper sack and he in turn decorates it, following a clean-up theme. The sacks an each grade are then judged by council members and awards of first, second, and third places are given to the winning pupils. For an hour in the afternoon of clean-up day all the grade school pupils pick up all the litter on the school grounds under the supervision of council members. Standing beside her are pride and dignity. Also at her side is Mrs. Steig, her library advisor. She gives advice based on her years of experience. That experience has built a modern and efficient library. The bulk of the 2000 volumes were bought in recent years. Every year, through the assistance of Mr. Ackerman and Mrs. Steig, this school expands its volume of up-to-date books in all fields. The efficiency of the librarians was advanced in the fall by a series of lessons given by Suzanne Wessendorf and Mrs. Steig. We feel now that the librarians are better qualified to serve the students. It has been a good year for all connected with the library. We hope it has been for the students, too. 52 EARLY SERVICE STATION DIERENFIELD OIL COMPANY Early, Igwa Early and SRC LE CLUB FRANCAIS ROW 1: Mary Wadsley, Linda Jensen, Sandy Smith, Julie Ward, Jane Paulson, Pres., Gayle Witte, Sher- rie Schramm, Mary Kiefer. The thrones for the queen and king were placed at the south end of the gym with the words PIRATES' COVE written above the thrones. The band shell was also deco- rated with black and silver streamers with soft blue lights giving a romantic effect. Alcott's LITTLE WOMEN has fascinated readers everywhere. On November 15 this popular juvenile novel came to life when it was presented on our stage. Who can forget Jo, Corrine Smith, and her wish to be the man of the family, her sacri- ficing of her beautiful hair, and comedy courtship with Professor Bhaer played by Jim Wunschel? The love affair of John Brooke and Meg, Lee Schott and Marcia Karstens, had many mis- understandings but these are forgiveable considering the crotchety interference from Aunt March portrayed by Beth Nellis. The Christmas play eas a success only with the help of Amy, Dianna Haack. A remarkable change is noticed in her on retum from Europe but the reason is revealed on her announcement of her secret marriage to Laurie, Henry Goodman, while in Europe. The incident that gave the story life was the death of the much loved Little Beth played by Joyce Determan. Always present with sound advice to her daughters was Marmee, Julie Ward, and by her side was the loving husband and father, Damon Mooney. The whole cast did a wonderful job but the girls must receive special thanks on their remarkable performance. Everyone appreciated their efforts. Special thanks to Mrs. Miller, the director. LITTLE WOMEN was the first of the two all-school plays to be given each year. The sec- ond is given in the spring with actors also chosen from the whole high school.
