The concert band under the direction of Mr. Rider was organized as soon as the marching band was no longer needed. Concert band gives an opportunity to perform an entirely different type of music. The more difficult classical, modern, and even some original music and modem jazz. It is a cultural activity that demands much of the students and for which the whole community is grateful. 453 ms f if .EEN-M: 'E -M'm ,.gL..W 1962 MARCH! GBA D The sound of the marching band, preparing to perform at the first football game, was a cheerful addition to the beginning of the school year. Since the marching Cadets had a new director, Mr. Rider, there were new ideas to assimilate and new selections to learn. After a few changes, the band had a snappy program to present to the Crestland fans at the first home game. The half-time programs included The Unteachables, Dixieland Beat, and 1962 Homecoming. During the season the marching Cadets performed in a parade at Storm Lake and participated in Band Day at Carroll. Cadet candidate Jane Paulson was crowned Band Day Queen. The marching season ended abruptly when it rained at the last football game, and the band was un- able to march.
