N X J ff ,ijt ' HI-TlvmEs . Seniov Class sgfisiowy Cressona, Pa. March 30, 1937. Dear Sue: My! What a task you have given me when you asked for a resume of my four years in C. H. S. Of course, nothing is impossible when once you determine to do it. Well, here goes! In the fall of '33, thirty-seven inquisitive greenies began high school. You can well imagine the exciting time we had getting adjusted. Mr. Charles Stauffer became our first Captain , and was he good! Excite- ment ran high when we chose our first officers. They included: President, Claude Butlerg Vice President, Catherine Kline fyou remember Cass Jg Secretary, Florence Fisher, Treasurer, James Parnell. Miss Helen Paine undertook our managment for our Sophomore year. That was a big task-I really mean it. Naturally, we selected new leaders-President, Claude Butler the must have been good, eh 'ZJQ Vice President, William Hartman, Secretary, Irene Major Cwasnyt that some- thingljg Treasurer, James Parnell. Several of our number were selected for membership in the Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y Clubs. Of course, we engaged in Football, Basketball, and Glee Chorus. Next came our Junior year. We again had Mr. Stauifer to command our crew, which, I bet, he found more unruly than in our 'fFreshie year. We then went through the throes of electing officers. The result was: President, William Hartman, Vice President, Rayiield Bergerg Secretary, Robert Seitzg Treasurer, James Parnell. A large number endeavored to become proficient stenogs by enrolling in the Commercial Department, a new feature. Then our fun began! It started with a trip to the State Capitol at Harrisburg and the Hershey Plant. We had planned to go early in the winter, but Ol' Man Winter gave us too much of a scare. We ended the year with our annual Junior and Senior Banquet and the Junior May Dance. Then, too, who could forget the delight of receiving our class rings? One of our fellow members, Claude Butler, had the honor of accepting the mantle for our class. Finally that momentous year-Senior-arrived, and with it new responsibilities. This time Miss Alice Davis took us under her wing. We now numbered twenty-seven. For the last time we chose our class officers, who were: President, William Hartman, Vice President, Rayfield Bergerg Secretary, Robert Seitz, Treasurer, Viola Cooper. Our singing in Chapel has been so much improved, and our appreciation of music has been much more developed because of the addition of Music to our curriculum this year. Raising of funds was our major problem. My, what a task that was! We conducted a booth at the Schuylkill County Fair fwas that fun?Jg had Cake and Candy Sales, produced the Senior Class Play, Depend on Mel , sold Christmas Cards and Kitchen-Aids fdid you want any'?jg held dances, and chanced off a ton of coal. We also participated in the Musical Comedy. Now, there looms in the distance, the highlights of our Senior year-the trip to Washington, D. C., and Graduation! Tho' our paths divided lie, We will ever seek to strive for what is right For our Country, and our dear Cressona High. Teachers, fond adieu, we now must take of you, As we venture on the Sea of Life. May God grant that we may ever all be true, Out in this world of strife. As we hear the parting knell, We feel a deep regret within our hearts So we bid to our C. H. S.- farewell ! Dear old C. H. Seeking-ever seelcing- for the end of our long quest. Now, that we are nearing it-just four short years from then- Our reward is Graduation-and we're young girls and men. Perhaps in these four years that have so swiftly Hed, We may have done some little wrong, or a few harsh words been said. This, we would ask you, to cast from out your mind, And please remember only, what was commendable and kind. Within these friendly walls, the golden hours we've spent Were filled with Truth and Wisdom-and Strength our teachers lentg We've stored up all these treasures as daily they did increase, And shall always try, while out in Life, to ne'er let their value cease. Not at the Top, but Climbingln, was our motto when we were hereg We shall always try to apply it tho' we be far or near. Now, farewell to all, we must say, but herein will our parting thought fit- We shall make C. H. S. as proud of us, as we are proud of it! -Irene Major. 'f 'L 4?rt'Z 1?-'-.'.'i 'T i ' ' ' ' - .. An aviatrix to us came, Saying, Doris Bittle is the name . We recognized her as Dory , Climbing aboard the Grumpanory . Cleveland, being our iirst stop, We all went in a little shop. There we saw to our surprise, Edith Reed, who is quite a size. Then we were forced to land Along the Rio Grande. There we met our dear friend f'Gack , Yodeling around like some old quack. 71 Hollywood, our next sensation, Here we met with great admiration, Mary Hock, our blonde classmate, Eating off a silver plate. Up to 'fFrisco's Golden Gate, In a radio station we wait, Announcer Dyke says Hello ! And wags his tongue to sell Jello . Across the ocean now we iiy, Happily eating Wagner's pie. Now we land. Oh, what a bump! Japan's before us-get ready-jump! Up the street, we start to trot, There is Major on the spotg Leading a large mission band, That is known throughout the land. But now to Africa's darkest jungle, Behold Sir Betack! hear him grumble. The poor Cannibals shake with fright, At the sight of dear old Mike . Back to the United States again, There's Ray Berger and his friend. We find that she's his happy wife, And hope she spares the butcher knife. We walk about a mile or two, Then agree to visit the zoo. Ah! Hilda Mac sells soda pop, That is good to the last drop. We approach a little country home, Just like one we saw in Rome. Kantner's name is on the box, He raises pigeons by the flocks. The organization is not as large as previous years because of the fact that only those people with the best voices were eligible. One hour a week after school has been devoted to rehearsal, which makes this an extra-curricular activity. We hope by next year it will be a definite part of the music course. The chorus has sung several times at the P. T. A. meetings, before the student body, and augmented the Minstrel Show. The most outstanding event of the Glee Chorus is the Musical Comedy, presented yearly. This demonstrates the training received and brings out many unknown talents. The ambition of the chorus is to be an outstanding organization of the school, and we sincerely hope the chorus will be able to enter the Forensic Music Contest next year. To Mr. Springer we are indebted for the high standard of musical appreciation instilled in us. 5g.,,:4af?3QQ.Q,q -l-l-? Thirty three Thirty-four H I-TIVITIES Safety Qaida! Of these forty, there were approximately twenty-five who were selected for the Varsity and Junior Varsity. It was this season of '37 that the Cressona High School took an important step in basketball. Through the efforts of Coach Guy Miller, we joined the Southern Division of the Schuylkill Basketball League. By entering this league, it meant, that we had to play much larger schools than that of Cressona. This was greatly appreciated by the boys who were selected for the team. We are sorry to say, we had a poor season, although the boys tried their best to give the other teams some keen competition. Next year, there will be nearly a whole team of veterans. We, the Class of '37, wish them a successful season, and hope that they come out on top or close to it. John is very jealous and has his misgivings about leaving his Wife in such a place. Still he is about to do just that. Windsor is leaving, too, but when he sees Rita he decides to say. John thinks Windsoi' has fallen in love with his Wife, so John stays too, in disguise. Sophie suspects this of John, so she has Windsor go through his baggage. With all these happenings, Windsor tries to get on the good side of Hollins, the man of poor health, who dislikes hini very much. Much interest centers on Olga, the man-loving, blond vamp, who likes McCormick because of his money. In the end everything turns out all ri ht for everyone.
