Stout clod-hoppers, sturdy oxfords, neat flats, stylish suedes, gay bal- lerinas, smart high heels, and comfortable loafers take us everywhere we need to go for learning and fun. An athlete without his spikes would be helpless. A girl without her saddle shoes would not be hep. We had to toil our senior year, too, in order to offset the many debts we took on then. Dances were held each Friday following a home football game. The concession stands at the football field brought in money. Each senior helped our financial status by selling Christmas cards. When our Work was finished we played. Seniors appeared frequently in all extra- curricular activities. The football team was manned by ten seniors, the basketball team con- tained seven members of our class, and the track team boasted four. Certain individuals brought honor to themselves through their athletic participation. Eugene Illig received hon- orable mention on the All-State Basketball Team. Michael Latterner was an All-District bas- ketballer as well as being recipient of the American Legion trophy. In football, Iames Lat- terner and Wayne Baker achieved honorable mention on the All-District Team. Paul Brown was elected most valuable player by his teammates, while Bob Rightnour was named Hon- orary Captain. Four senior girls provided moral support in the roles of cheerleaders. They were Ioline Kirby, Lois Little, Dolores Murray, and Rose Ann Fontanella. Our school spirit led us to victory in the annual Powhatan subscription campaign and we crowned Veronica Wilson and William Iudd, our candidate for Queen and King. The senior play Mother is a Freshman was successful from two points of view. It brought to the foreground our fine dramatic talent and boosted our treasury considerably. Musically we were well represented. The mixed chorus enrolled eighteen of our class- mates. Eleven twelfth graders sang in The Merry Widow. The girl's chorus had many senior members. This year's excellent band employed the musical abilities of twelve seniors. Iim Lafferty played the trumpet in All-County Band. We may have been green in September but We have learned a lot since the opening days of school. We enjoyed the sophomore initiation party and had fun wearing our clothes back- wards and feasting on hot dogs and pop. Other fun makers were the Turkey Trot on November l5 and the Christmas dance held on December 30. Late in the spring we skated in the Penn Pavilion in a money mak- ing evening of thrills and spills. Mr. Leon Hue's reporting section won a box of candy for having lUU !o dues payment. Iohn Parrish was quite a collector! We tried our hand at school activities. Ross Eberhart and Ierry Sharpe Were on the Wrestling team. Sixteen boys went out for football and twelve were on the junior high bas- ketball squad.
