You know the deadline is todayl This headline will never fitl are cries which come from a small corner ofthe East building, the Cresconian office, where each month agitated reporters gather to report their hot news. The staff of the Cresconian has tried to sustain the principles founded in its policy: To develop a high quality of school spirit and sportsmanship, to support worthy school and community enterprises, to co-operate with faculty and students, to express student opinion, to uphold scholarship. The multitude of problems and difficulties that arise when working on the Crescon- ian are definitely overshadowed by the fun and satisfaction derived from the finished product Qui! ana! Sm! Q junior class ploy The trials and tribulations of an English teacher are never so great as when she is try- ing to put on a class play. This was very evident in the case of Our Miss Brooks, presented by the junior class in the Little Theater November l2, Miss Brooks lMary Jo Gitchelll, an En- glish teacher, was trying to direct a play, Lost Horizon . She gave Ted Wilder iWayne Burnikell, a star athlete, the leading part, and chose Jane Drew lKay Weinkaufl, to play opposite him. This made Rhonda Allen lMary Munsonl very jealous, and she did everything in her power to spite Jane. Meanwhile, Miss Brooks ran into diffi- culty in the presentation of her play. Try- ing to please Mr. Wadsworth lAllen Soltowl, a very harsh principal, and Hugh Longacre lGeorge Mikeshl, an athletic coach whom she considered a bright matrimonial prospect, provided many humorous incidents. Finally, the play was presented with great success. This also brought to a successful conclusion not only the romance of Ted and Jane but also of Hugh and Miss Brooks. senior class ploy A Spanish play, The Women Will Have Their Way was chosen for the senior class play. junior-senior prom The Junior-Senior Prom, top social func- tion ofthe year, was held on the much-awaited night of May Zl, l955. Preparations had begun months earlier and the theme of Deep Sea Fantasy converted the gym into an un- derwater fairyland. The entrance to the mystic land was through the inside of a whale's mouth. The dance floor was surrounded with sea-horses, octopuses, and plant life. A wrecked ship lay at one end of the gym, displaying a phan- tom band on its deck. The decorations, the candlelight atmos- phere, and the dreamy music of Henry Charles combined to make the evening a cherished memory. high spots A A .ijgi F' . D ki l football banquet Another highlight of the year was the annual football banquet held in the fall. Win- ning the conference championship lent added enjoyment to this affair, The guest speaker was Jim Zabel, sportscaster over WHO. commencement The last, and perhaps most important event of the year, was commencement.
