3' MAY TIME AT-CRESCO HIGH Accompanied by the strains of the beautiful Triumphal March, Harold Steinmetz, Lord of May, led the processional to the throne where he crowned Kathleen Duncan May Queen. The attendants were: Seniors: Helene Haven, Raymond Murray, Juniors, Verna Betts, Leonard Lybbertg Sophomores, Betty Ann Evans, Herbert Holt, Freshmen, Dorothy Gardner, Howard Walker. Robert Wilke was crown bearer and the trainbearers were Gary Lienhard and George Champlin. The dances varied from the graceful waltz to a snappy jitterbug number. The interpretative dances were presented by the physical training classes under the direction of Miss Betty Hazard. AS I SAID BEFORE Bock Row: Betty Ann Evans, Marion l-loopman, Ruth Stoll, Madonna Licnharrl, Bonnie Carman, Reva Burr, Kenneth Hcrold, Willard Hurst. Front Row: Joyce Novak, Evelyn Davis, Dorothy Crosicr, Miss A. Zimmerman, Doris Montag, Audrey Bigalk. The declamation group worked early and late On their selections. Thirteen students took part in the Home Declamatory Contest. The winners were: Dramatic, Betty Ann Evans, Oratorical, Doris Montagg Humerous, Lovene Eaton. The Preliminary Speech Contest with Cresco, Decorah and Ridgeway competing was held here liehruary 22, with Miss Ann Simely of Hamline University as critic judge. Doris Montag received a lirst rating in Oratory, Lovene Eaton in Humorous, Kenneth Herold in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Betty Ann Evans in Interpretive Reading. These people represented Cresco at the Pre-District Contest held at Decorah March 12. Kenneth Herold received a first rating in Original Oratory and in Extemporaneous Speaking. 1-ie went to West Union March 19 to represent Cresco in the District Contest. He later went to Atlantic to represent Cresco at the State Contest in Extemporaneous Speaking. -1- Ever so often someone comes to school with a new hillfold or bracelet and, when it is admired Y by friends, the student proudly announces, '1 made it myself. With Mr. Fischer as instructor, this rou of oun artists mastered several crafts. Some other activities were a u et show tellinv g P Y e H P , 1, the story of Christmas, at the Christmas party for the juniors and seniors, and the redecorating of the art room. Une of the most amusing social events of the year was a dance March 17, sponsored hy the cluh. The students came to the hard timesv party in their most ragged clothes.
