CROSSCOUNTRY FIRST ROW: Gordon Bradshaw, Vincent Taylor, Ronald Health, Aubrey Eakens, David McKaniel, Dennis Lor. SECOND ROW: Ronald Ricketts, Robert Jones. THIRD ROW: Larry Stanton, Didacus French, Alvin Hall, James Borders, Greg Welch. FOURTH ROW: Lowell Edwards, Larry Bryants, James Knight, Terrance Lorick, Taylor Guidry, Mike Long, Coach Katzman. Cross Country ' s first year was success- ful, led by two of the best runners in the city. Crenshaw showed the Western League its great power, as Varsity Captain Gordon Bradshaw (shown leading the pack at left) and Tenth -Grader Wallace Duke both placed high in league. Duke became die first Cougar to represent Crenshaw in cross country City Finals, where he put the Blue and Gold up front. 80

THIRD ROW: Robert Taylor, Louis Kanopka, Eddie Johnson, Alphonso Johnson, Rommel Agee, Mark Kamou, Gary Harrison. FOURTH ROW: Tim Lumpkin, Kenneth Strickland, Homer Taylor, Anthony McKinney. TENNIS Some observers believed Ken Bentley to be Southern California ' s best high school tennis player. «.,Vi. » %■ The Varsity and Junior Varsity tennis teams opened their second year competi- tion with great success. Their first victory came against Jefferson High. Led by two-year All -City Ken Bentley and the unmerciful play of Peter Jacobs and Alon Carmichael, Crenshaw went on to make every- one fear the blue and gold. Five netmen who fought to make Cren- shaw powerful were Bentley, Jacobs, Carmichael, Perry Brown, and Larry Diamond. M Perry Brown hadn ' t played tennis seriously till this spring. He turned out to be one of the best. 79
