Here for the first time community ideas, community planning, and community effort were added to the other resources used to build this school. Tlien, almost as a test of the fabric, Crenshaw opened its doors during one of our most tragic and trying periods in the contemporary scene. National leaders were destroyed, national decisions were assaulted and national estal lishments were questioned. Today, we see almost all of our major educational institutions being challenged. They are being asked to cast off many methods, procedures, and standards as archaic. Education is being challenged to develop new techniques, new concepts, and new understandings. Schools are being challenged to redesign education for the citizenry in the decades to come. That this school, or any school, can respond to meet all of these challenges is doubtful; yet, each school throughout the country can play a part in this evolution. Crenshaw High School is dedicated to quality education, community participation and pupil involvement to produce the good and strong in citizens and leaders for tomorrow. This task is also the never-ending re- quirement of our society ' s survival. ■ ' . ' . fc-ffs?;! ■ v? S GUIDES ALONG THE PA TH There are many paths young people may take. Very seldom are coaches satisfied with a losing record of 1-6-1. How- ever Coach Holloway and Coach McLinn do not feel that they had a losing season. Three of the teams that defeated the Cougars (by a TOTAL of seven points) fin- i-shed either first or second in their league and went on to participate in the City ' s Play- offs. At the end of the season, the Cougars had an all-sophomore and junior starting offensive team. We had only four seniors on our defensive team. Coaches Holloway and McLinn are opti- mistic about next years football season be- cause of the many returning letterman. Crenshaw was blessed by one bright spot — ALL-WESTERN-LEAGUE Cornell Ridley. It takes many years to build a winning swim team. The Cougar aquanauts was not expected to burn up the league but there were some brilliant spots. Preston Wadley, Steve Miller, and Andre Blanton were expected to take their share of first places in the 50-yard free-style. Divers Wendell Brook, David Broughton, and William Harris, three dark- horses in the league surprised many competitors. Observers looked for Michael Dickerson, a young newcomer, to be setting and breaking school rec- ords in the near future. He ' ll be around for another two years. The Cougar swim team elected John Griffin and Edward Lewis as co- captains. YEARBOOK Putting together Crenshaw ' s first full yearbook has been quite an experience. Though none of us had done much work in journalism before, we battled against dead- lines, unlabeled photos, unworkable layouts and newly-created clubs whose pictures we hadn ' t allotted any space for. We didn ' t always win, but the experience taught us a lot about the students, teachers, clubs, classes, teams and equipment that make up Crenshaw High School, as well as about some aspects of journalism. We hope that The Cougar ' s Path pleases you, that we spelled your name right, and that you will look into it with pleasure often in the years ahead. More Spring Staffers.
