The bonfire silhouettes a cheerleader during the pep rally on Thursday night. The Arts Senate sponsored the night ' s activities which included a drive-in dinner. Fall Frolics was climaxed with the announcing of Miss Cutie and Mr. Ugly. Sue Sanders, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and John Bachechi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, reigned over the frolicking students. Bachechi issues his State of the Frolics mes- sage to his subjects. 449 pints of blood were donated by students to the Red Cross. Frolics balloting aids Red Cross Sue Sanders of Alpha Sigma Alpha and John Bachechi of Sigma Alpha Epsilon were named Miss Cutie and Mr. Ugly at Fall Frolics. The Red Cross received 449 pints of blood from the balloting. Sly and the Family Stone were slated to provide the music, but they cancelled out. Tommy James and the Shondells and The Klan played instead. Fall Frolics was sponsored by the Arts Senate and the Business Administration Council. The blood drive was organized by Alpha Phi Omega. The peace symbol found its way into the Fall Frolics activity. Jack Troy gives his version of the sign while enjoying the atmos- phere of the dance. 25

Princesses Mary Welch, Rosann Shellenberg and Kathy Bogan applaude the announcement of the Homecoming Queen, Miss Kate McCorkell. The 1968 royalty was announced a day late because of the can- cellation of the Four Tops concert. Miss McCorkell reigned over the parade, game and dance. Homecoming sees week of activities Explor ' 68 Homecoming activities all but filled the first week of December. The traditional Friday parade, basketball game and dance were preceded in the week by the motion picture Taming of the Shrew on Sunday, a folk music concert with Danny Cox on Monday, and Thursday night ' s pep rally- bonfire. Kate McCorkell reigned as Homecoming Queen. The first attendant was Mary Pat McCluskey. Deanna Kern was second attendant. The School of Pharmacy won the float competition in the parade, while the Delta Sigma Pi-Kappa Beta Chi entry, all 102 feet of it, survived a fire and took second honors. The Illinois basketball team took some of the joy out of Homecoming by handing the Bluejays a 69-66 defeat at the Civic Auditorium. The Homecoming dance, held at Peony Park, fea- tured the music of the Spirit of St. Louis. Part of the official duties that befall a president of the Student Board of Governors is kissing the Homecoming queen. Ed Warin congratulates Queen Kate. 2
