Tommy James and the Shondells received top billing at Fall Frolics, but the Creighton combo, the Klan, was the hit. Cancellation by Sly and the Family Stone forced dance chairmen to find new entertainment. The dance was sponsored by the Arts Council and the Business Administration Council. Representing Tri Sigma sorority, Mary Ann Kurth walks to the stage with her partner Tom Purcell of the Christian Life Community. 24 Ugly Mick Flaherty of Delta Sigma Pi fraternity escorts the Kappa Beta Chi candidate, Laura Lathrop to the stage pre- ceeding the evening ' s coronation.

Faculty, administrators, and the university ROTC hon- or guard stand at attention while the Creighton ROTC Band played the national anthem. Introducing new students to the Creighton ideal, the faculty honors deserving upperclassmen by admission into Gamma Pi Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu, honoraries. Kevin Clark introduces Creighton president. Father Henry W. Linn, at Convocation which was held in early October of the school year. President reveals evaluation honors The Rev. H. W. Linn, university president, took the occasion of the 19th annual President ' s Con- vocation to announce formation of an undergraduate education evaluation connmittee. Father Linn said the curriculum evaluation committee would bring faculty, students and administration together to the hard, lengthy, humbling and exciting task of chal- lenging Creighton ' s undergraduate education. About 1,000 students and faculty heard Father Linn name 36 students to the Jesuit honor societies. Alpha Sigma Nu and Gamma Pi Epsilon. The Rev. M. Joseph Costelloe, S.J., chairman of the Department of Classical Languages, and Dr. John A. Butkus, assistant dean of the School of Dentistry, were given the university ' s Distinguished Service Awards at the convocation. 23

Fall Frolics was climaxed with the announcing of Miss Cutie and Mr. Ugly. Sue Sanders, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and John Bachechi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, reigned over the frolicking students. Bachechi issues his State of the Frolics mes- sage to his subjects. 449 pints of blood were donated by students to the Red Cross. Frolics balloting aids Red Cross Sue Sanders of Alpha Sigma Alpha and John Bachechi of Sigma Alpha Epsilon were named Miss Cutie and Mr. Ugly at Fall Frolics. The Red Cross received 449 pints of blood from the balloting. Sly and the Family Stone were slated to provide the music, but they cancelled out. Tommy James and the Shondells and The Klan played instead. Fall Frolics was sponsored by the Arts Senate and the Business Administration Council. The blood drive was organized by Alpha Phi Omega. The peace symbol found its way into the Fall Frolics activity. Jack Troy gives his version of the sign while enjoying the atmos- phere of the dance. 25
