Nathan Twining, pianist Gerald Moore, pianist Andrea Bedami, Wierd World of Bedami art exhibit at the Fine Arts Building. Creighton receives distinguished guests Through the Visiting Scholar and Concert Series, Creighton was once again host to a number of eminent persons. Each one has been distinguish- ed for excellence in his chosen field, and two of them, Gerald Moore and John Akar, have been decorated by Queen Elizabeth II with the Order of The British Empire. Akar, is director of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service for West Africa and Moore, a pianist, has accompanied such artists as Casals, Chaliapin and Schumann. Nathan Twining, who has been called the fastest rising young pian- ist in America, also appeared in concert. Anrdea Bedami, a folk-pop artist, was one of the first to exhibit his works in the Fine Arts build- ing. Bedami ,was described as by far the best painter in the Omaha area by Tom Bartek, art in- structor and former exhibition director at the Joslyn museum. The first Student Board concert brought The Young Americans to the Civic Auditorium. This is a talented group of high school and college stu- dents from the Los Angeles area. Their act demon- strates good music performed by youth. Backstage view of the Young Americans as they exe- cuted one of their routines 28

' Folklore ' captures Homecoming spot Pep rallies and snake dances, banquets and receptions, parades and dances — a basketball game — all these elements combined to produce one of the most spirited weeks on the Creighton calendar. Homecoming week, with its theme — American Folklore — saw mythical characters, such as Paul Banyan and Casey Jones, visiting the campus. The faculty-student basketball game opened the week ' s activities and was followed by a host of events culminating with the parade, dance and game. Friday morning brought the largest and most competitive parade in Creighton ' s history. That evening about 3000 excited and anxious students awaited the coronation of Homecoming Queen Sue Egan and the announcement of the winner in float competition. This is the coveted first place that went to the Bluejay Belle — the riverboat of Iota Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Alpha. A sweeping victory at the Homecoming basket- ball game brought the week to a close — a week which bore with it the excitement of competition, fun and color that made months of preparation worthwhile. Queen Sue said, Is it vi hiskey or cheese? 30
