Activity dominates September scene Suitcases to be unpacked, parents ' farewells, signs, talks, gawks, hi ' s and smiles — these are some of the freshman student ' s first impressions of his university. So he flows into Welcome Week — a week initiated to give the new student a look at the university and at his position in it. This year The Educated Man As Social Re- former, was the integrating theme for Welcome Week. The keynoted address was delivered by Eu- gene Foley, undersecretarv of commerce. Another major address was given by Lt. Gov. Pat Lucey of Wisconsin. Group discussions made up a major part in the program throughout the week and were received with enthusiasm by the freshman students. Guided by faculty members, freshmen explored the educat- ed man ' s duties and responsibilities in modern so- ciety. Freshmen girls paused for a moment to escape the confusion of their first vi eek in college. Thoughtful freshmen weighed the advantages of various Creighton organizations as presented by upperclassmen. 17

The gymnasium waited the day before registration for the storm of students that was sure to come. The smile of a weary but patient student was rarely seen during the three day ordeal. Coffee and cigarette butts showed that registration is also difficult for the registrars behind the tables.
