The green forest is the group of trees at the back of Creighton Middle School's 19 acres that border the canal. Eight hundred students from six different Creighton elementary schools attended Creighton Middle School during the 1986-87 school year as seventh and eighth graders. Creighton's finest students put forth their best effort which made this year an unforgettable one. There were special moments and events that made this year a memo- rable one. Some of the special people, mo- ments and events to remember about this 'Fine' year were captured in this book. The following pages show the laughter, pain and tears that made this year 'ONE OF THE PINESTV at Creighton Middle School for the golden panthers. STUDENT LIFE R3 4 4 'fha Creighton's Finest students were as busy off campus as they were on campus. Along with their social ac- tivities and in between numerous phone calls, individual students were pursuing development of var- ious skills and talents. Some were active in youth groups such as Boy Scouts, some in organized sports, such as football and soccer. Individual students excelled in gymnastics, karate, dancing and teaching dance classes, ice and roll- er skating, skateboarding, BMX bi- cycle racing, and swimming. These students practiced long hours to develop that Olympian at- titude, I am the best. As they racked up points, ribbons and tro- phies, each of these students helped us feel proud of them and of our- selves. They served as an inspira- tion to us. We looked on with awe at the honors they brought home. OOOQQ 12 Tl s ,A I Erin Timothy 'Finest' Creighton Swimmer Erin Timothy, swimmer and CMS seventh grader in the pool on the left. Erin shown with her trophies above. Erin Timothy, Creighton Middle School seventh grader and talented swimmer began swimming as a toddler. Erin began competing at 7 years of age while swimming with the Perry swim team in the summer parks and recreation program in 1981. She was named most valuable swimmer in her age group several years in a row. Erin began swim- ming with United States' Swim- ming in February 1985. She quali- fied and participated in the State Junior Olympic Meet in 1985 and 1986. Currently Erin swims with Swim Arizona Aquatics Club at Arizona Country Club. Erin qualified for the top 16 in 1985 in 50 meter breastroke, freestyle and butterfly strokes. She won 5 medals given for top three places in the Phoenix City Meet in 1986. For these achievements, it took hours of practice in the water. Erin prac- tices 1.5 hours 3 days a week after school. Her favorite stroke is the butterfly. Erin has accomplished a lot as a swimmer so far. 6 l C ' Bobi Stant 'Finest' Creighton G mnast Bobi Stant, eighth grade student poses for photo above. Bobi on the beam in a recent workout at Gymnaestrada. Only the finest Gymnast The difference between good and great is a little extra effort. famous words spoken by Bobi Stant, 8th grade CMS student and accom- plished gymnast. Bobi Stant is a thirteen-year old gymnast who trains eighteen hours a week at Cymnaestrada. To win you have to have the talent and desire, but desire comes first, Bobi said. Apparently she has both talent and desire because she has won first place all around in the 1st and 3rd state qualifying meet Ju- nior Division. My favorite event is beam because I do the best on it, she stated. In Bobi's first year of competition she won lst place twice and Znd place five times in the all around category. Now that's proof of talent and desire! ogeoocogcpo occ of 4 Creighton Middle Rebuilding of Creighton Middle School brings promises of a 'FINE' new facility for students 55. iii 900060063009 School Creighton School District voters passed a 19 million dollar bond is- sue May 20, 1986, to improve the school buildings on the seven Creighton School sights. Four million dollars of the bond issue was designated to improve the existing Creighton Middle School buildings and to add new l buildings to the campus. New construction was scheduled to begin in April of 1987. The date of completion was set as August 1988. The architects met in the Fall of 1986 with each subject area to plan improvements for each department of Creighton Middle School. Some of the new buildings sched- uled for building are a physical education-band-chorus building. A science wing with six new class- rooms and three science labs, a new library, a new counselor office area and nurse's station. Also planned - a new art and computer room and a re-designed enlarged cafeteria. O GCDQOOOQOOOC' 'uv Ron Lee, Outstandin Boy Scout, Earns Eagle Award! Above: Ron Lee, Creighton Middle School eighth grader, playing the French horn in the school's Honor Band. Left: Ron Lee in his Scout attire. Ron Lee I am a member and Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 345. In April 1987, when I will turn 14 years old, I will join the Varsity Scout program. I will also be awarded my Eagle in April 1987. I am completing my Eagle project which involves: building learning and play equipment - a playhouse for emotionally disturbed children in south Phoenix. I started scouting as a Cub Scout at 8 years of age. I became a Boy Scout when I was 11 years old. Today, I am a Life Scout. I have enjoyed the challenge and sense of accomplish- ment I've experienced as a member of an active Scout group. In july 1986, I was voted the out- standing scout. I had earned 14 merit badges and my life rank ad- vancement. I received a ribbon and a medal for my efforts. I was tapped out for the Order of the Arrow at Geronimo Scout Camp in 1986. I worked a day with- out talking and without much food. That night I feasted as I was given a sash with an arrow on it. February 1987 by Ron Lee 'ff LJ O CDO C3 C? He races twice a week at Scottsdale ABA Jaycee Rodeo BMX Park. 1.1. 's Bike Shop has spon- sored him inthe past. Wes has won 4 finals and has brought home 11 trophys. Practicing takes up an hour of his day. One of the draw- backs to racing is the money: you have to pay for a membership, pro- tection equipment, and a good rac- ing bike. He says It is worth the money and the hard work. My strong point in races in the jump- ing. Wes also has many other hobbies, such as soccer, playing drums, and free-style bike riding. He enjoys soccer, but he is thinking about giving up soccer and devoting all his energy and time to racing. Freestyle bike riding includes per- forming stunts on his BMX dirt bike. Wes hopes to continue to per- fect all his stunts. Wes is the first chair drummer in the Creighton Honor Band. He was also accepted to play drums in the Phoenix All City Band. 1 e sill-rf . ,- ...ffffi t +' ,'.tf V M oooooo do OQCJQ .1 Our Support Staff Kee s Each Of s Doing Our 'Finest' ork The support staff of CMS, the student body and teachers depend on daily for a variety of practical services included the office staff, the cafeteria workers, the bus drivers and the cus- todians.
