Three prominent personalities died during the year: J. Edgar Hoover, who dedicated his life to the Federal Bureau of Investigation: Jackie Robinson, the first black to break the color line in professional baseball: the Duke of Windsor, who captured the world s heart when he gave up his crown as England's King Edward VIII to marry an American. Furling their colors, men of the last U.S. combat unit in Vietnam prepare to leave. Miss America (center) is Terry Anne Meeuwsen from Wisconsin. (Color photo) Moments like this, in an environment that is fresh and green. With pure air and clean waters. Once the lament of folk singers, the issue of ecology is in the mainstream of social concern. The Rolling Stones were one of the popular singing groups. (Inset) Buck Owens and Roy Clark were stars in country-western music. Apollo 17 astronauts made man's third exploration of the Moon, in the vicinity of North Massif President Richard Nixon and wife Pat traveled to China for talks with Mao Tse Tung and Chou En Lai. Later they strolled atop the Great Wall. News pictures. United Press Internationel Coiorphotos Oak Lawn Northbrook. School was let out for the district meet in Plain- view so the students could give their verbal support to the squad. It was very successful, because two members of the squad placed and went on to State. Two records were broken this year. Dan Peters broke the high-jump record and Drew Nelson broke the 180 yd. hurdles record. It proved to be the end of a very successful sports year at Creighton High School. 56 Mile Relay: J Fuchtman. CHS’s 1573 Homecoming was a sad one, but for all the superstitious Bulldog fans it was almost exactly what they expected. Homecoming landed on Oct. 13th (Friday the 13th to boot!), and the CHS Bulldogs lost to their opponents, the Osmond Tigers by a single point, the final score being a 15- 14 victory for Osmond. This was the only loss for the Creighton Bulldogs. Seventh grade tries their hand at a float!! 63 Varsity Marching Band in action!!!! COMMENCEMENT Hearing the echoes of twelve long years...Feeling the satisfaction of having tried...Looking back through the times they stubbornly survived...a handful of future teachers, farmers, housewives, doctors, nurses, or graduates. Pausing for that final look...taking that first big step towards the rest of their lives...Wondering what that future will bring...Knowing that the sounds of 73 are gone only to be found in the flames of memory. Graduation The big moment finally arrives. Seniors receive their diplomas. 73 CONCLUSION Sounds of ’73 at CHS...laughter or tears...making plans...winning and losing...Getting together, meeting new people...learning - sometimes the hard way...the pains of getting to school on time...Going from class to class...Suddenly its all over and only the flames of memory remain.” ADAMS.
