dL - , V B i DEDICATION Because we deeply appreciate her thirty-four years of untiring service rendered to Creedmoor High School and because we reserve a place of highest esteem in our hearts for her, we, the Senior Class, dedicate this, the 1954 El Repaso to Miss Ollie Lyon with the hope that we may, in some small way, repay her for the life that she has dedicated to the training of the Youth of Creedmoor. % HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY MR. Makes you feel kind of funny inside, doesn ' t it? In thinking back it seems like only yesterday that we entered Miss Louisa Rosemond ' s room in the first grade. Everything was so new and exciting then but we soon learned the regular routine along with our A B C ' s. As we progressed, each year grew more difficult but we became a little wiser too. Sometimes that Reading, Riting and Rithmetic had to be taught to the tune of a hickory stick sure enough. But all our teachers were so patient and understanding, even in those Trying Times. Each year that passed, some of our classmates left us but others joined our happy throng too. Together we took part in the many school activities that made our elementary days more interesting. Some of the highlights were the music recitals, the Spring Operetta, May Day 1948, and many others. Upon entering high school in the fall of 1950 we really lived up to our names as green freshmen. But after living through that unforgettable week of initiation we soon got into the swing of things with the best of them. We came into our second year with the well deserved title of silly sophomores. We really did have some wonderful times together even if we did drive our teachers nuts doing it. By the time we reached our third year in high school we were very Jolly Juniors looking forward to giving the best Junior-Senior Banquet and choosing our class rings. And now, at last we have reached our long awaited goal and claimed the title of Dignified Sen¬ iors. But we know Miss Aiken has disagreed with us on this point, especially in some of our crazy class meetings. Soon our days here at dear ole C. H. S. will be just memories. When we receive our diplomas the history of our class as a group ends and each member will write his own history by his future deeds. Yes, there went the telephone again. The drudgery of keeping house was really getting under my skin, so nonchalantly I went to answer the telephone. To my surprise it was one of my old classmates, Jackie Ellington, who invited me to go with her to Paris that afternoon to look over clothes that Velma Stevenson was designing for her to wear in her next movie, Take the Underground. Naturally I accepted, so she picked me up in exactly one hour and gayly we headed to the airport chatting about the latest gossip. High School days soon became a part of the conversation and Jackie was bragging on her most efficient secretary, a former classmate, Faydean Medlin. By this time we had arrived at the airport. I had never been in a jet before so you can imagine how excited and nervous I was. As I started to step in this faster than sound machine I slipped and fell and to ' my utter dismay the pilot himself picked me up. He removed his headgear, to ask me if I was hurt and guess who he turned out to be! Horace Adcock. I certainly had him figured wrong when I thought he would be a settled married man. My ankle was twisted badly so I was taken to the first-aid station. Peg¬ gy Tunstall, who was a nurse, bandaged it and we were ready to take off again. When we were settled in our seats the very attractive hostess, another former classmate of ours, Nancy Clay, reminded us to fasten our safety belts. In a matter of minutes we landed in Paris and hailed a cab driver by none other than that speed- demon of our graduating class, John Green, who informed us that Billy Whitfield also had joined the ranks of taxicab drivers. We understand now, of course, why taxicabs of Paris are unsurpassed. Upon entering the studio to see Velma we were rudely bumped into and almost knocked down by a pedestrian who was not looking where he was walking and seemed not to care. Who should it be but James Marshburn who was a professor at the University of Paris. He owned a private spaceship and invited us to take a trip to the moon with him. The three of us went in and persuaded Velma to forget the designs and go with us. After all Jackie might not get a chance to wear them if this expedition failed. James reassured us everything would be all right since this was just another trip for him. We got all our gear together, hopped into the spaceship, and in no time flat we landed on the moon. We were greeted by the sound of a shotgun which frightened me, but it was only Larry Bennett shooting coons. He had killed all the coons in the southern part of U. S. and had chosen the moon to continue his hunting rather than to go up north. Maggie Dickerson and Betty Powell, who gave up trying to catch a man on earth, were now chasing the men in the moon and, are they hot on the trail! However, they stopped long enough to greet us and tell us of the wonderful work Lessie Hockaday was doing there as a missionary. Exhausted but happy we returned to earth. Jackie and I journeyed on in the U. S., our home sweet home. I stopped in N. Y. to get groceries for dinner and whom did I meet but Billy Chappell who was a butcher in the A. P. While chatting with Billy I learned that Otho Cash was a well-known lawyer in N. Y. and of course we knew that Roger Overton was mayor of the city. When I returned home the afternoon mail had arrived and I received a letter from Jackie Currin Dan¬ iel who had three little redhead boys and was teaching school at Stem. She told me about a letter she had received from Edwina Bullock, who was ambassador to Russia and also about two other classmates of ours, Shirley Beck and Betty Lou Aiken, who were living in the Harricane. I also learned from her let¬ ter that Bonnie Brinkley Roberts was living at Northside and that she and her husband had finally finished stripping their crop of tobacco and Darlene Brogden also had joined the ranks of happy married women. By this time my husband was home from work fussing for dinner, but I convinced him after such an exciting day we should go out for dinner and a show. This required calling Vernell Royals, who was running a local baby sitting agency, to send a babysitter over to keep my two little boys. We ended up at the Coconut Grove where Jesse Lee, a popular comedian and his songtress wife, the former Jean Bowles, were starring. Upon returning home to retire for the night I came to one conclusion: This is a small Universe, isn ' t it? Prophets Carolyn Jenkins James Marshburn Jaimes LIST WILL AND TESTAMENT The time has come (by the Grace of God and Kind-Hearted Teachers) to receive our diploma and take leave from C. H. S. So we, the class of 1954, being of uncertain minds, do Hereby make and pro¬ claim our Last Will and Testament. To the following students we bequeath these traits: 1.
