ll ASS STTIRY As we, The Seniors oT I95l, near The end oT our goal, we wonder if iT were only Twelve years ago ThaT we enTered The TirsT grade. We know iT is True, because in l938, aT The age oT 6, we walked inTo The TirsT grade, some oT us happy and some crying. BuT we soon seTTled down and Miss Louisa Rosemond TaughT us our ABC's and The ways oT school liTe. ATTer learning To read Bobby can run, eTc., under The guidance oT Mrs. Lucille Lyon and Mrs. Jones, we sTepped inTo The Third grade where Miss PiTTard TaughT us. Alene Lloyd joined us here and Emily T-lockaday leTT us. As The Time slowly slipped by we sTepped inTo The TourTh grade, where Miss Ollie Lyon was supposedly our Teacher: buT since she was ill so much oT The Time, some oT our Teachers were Mrs. Baker, Mrs. BriTTle, Mrs. l-linTon, and Mrs. Newell. Some oT us were in Miss BoyeTTe's ro-om This year. Miss Marilyn BoyeTTe, now Mrs. Mangum, helped us Through The TiTTh grade. During ThaT year our school was damaged by Tire and we had classes on The sTaqe in The audiTorium. Mrs. Newell was ouT sixTh grade Teacher. PaTsy Moss, Bobbie Currin, Rachel Coley, Deneaize l'TorTon, Felcie Dickerson, and Harold Jenkins ioined our happy Throng ThaT year. Marriage seemed To be a disease in The sevenTh grade, since our Teacher, Mrs. Haskins, be- came Mrs. BuTler, and Two oT our members were married, Roy Williams, who leTT us, and Janie Clark. who became Mrs. Aiken. We ThoughT we knew everyThing unTil we enTered The eighTh grade where Mrs. MclnTosh lef us sTudy currenT evenTs and memorize poems. During ThaT year Emily l-lockaday reTurned To our class, and Willard Andrews leTT iT. AT The close oT ThaT year when we received -our reporT cards and Tound we were promoTed To high school, we were exciTed. When we enTered on ThaT brighT, sunny day in SepTember, we moved around noT knowing whaT To do wiTh ourselves, buT we soon Tound ouT. Miss Annie B. Bullock was our home room Teacher. The oThers were Miss Aiken, Miss l-lesTer,i Mr. Newell, The principal, Mrs. Galloway and Mr. Wilson. Jackie Jones, RoberT Lane, KenneTh Richardsonl and Dlolores Flowers were newcomers ThaT year. We Then became sophomores wiTh Miss EdiTh T-lall as our home room Teacher, and The oThers remaining The same. Miss l-lesTer did, however, change her name To Mrs. Bullock. We losT DoroThy EllingTon and Nell RoberTs by marriage buT gained Alma Brown. Thomas KeiTh leTT our class ThaT year To go in service. Finally, aTTer Ten long years we 'became Juniors. ThaT year was exciTing and one To be long remembered. Our school was again parTially burned. In January we'goT our class rings and gave The annual Junior-Senior BanqueT in April wiTh Memories as our Theme. We gained a new principal ThaT year. Mr. A. W. Taylor, and some new Teachers. Mr. Sidney Ray, who became The boys' baskeTball coach, and Mrs. Fleming, an ElemenTary Teacher, who coached The girls. We also wel- comed Miss Elna Mangum To our commercial deparTmenT. lncidenTally. our b-oys were counTy baskeT- ball champions ThaT year. Three oT our girls, JaneT Green, Carolyn Bowles, and Shirley MonTague, leTT us To be married. Seniors! We are really proud To have The TiTle oT DigniTied Seniors. Our long reached-Tor goal we can almosT Touch. AlThough Through The years we all have noT been TogeTher, some oT us have seen sTudenTs added To and some Taken Trom our midsT. Currin Fuller, Evelyn Brogden, Bobby Beck.
