We know iT is True, because in l938, aT The age oT 6, we walked inTo The TirsT grade, some oT us happy and some crying. BuT we soon seTTled down and Miss Louisa Rosemond TaughT us our ABC's and The ways oT school liTe. ATTer learning To read Bobby can run, eTc., under The guidance oT Mrs. Lucille Lyon and Mrs. Jones, we sTepped inTo The Third grade where Miss PiTTard TaughT us. Alene Lloyd joined us here and Emily T-lockaday leTT us. As The Time slowly slipped by we sTepped inTo The TourTh grade, where Miss Ollie Lyon was supposedly our Teacher: buT since she was ill so much oT The Time, some oT our Teachers were Mrs. Baker, Mrs. BriTTle, Mrs. l-linTon, and Mrs. Newell. Some oT us were in Miss BoyeTTe's ro-om This year. Miss Marilyn BoyeTTe, now Mrs. Mangum, helped us Through The TiTTh grade. During ThaT year our school was damaged by Tire and we had classes on The sTaqe in The audiTorium. Mrs. Newell was ouT sixTh grade Teacher. PaTsy Moss, Bobbie Currin, Rachel Coley, Deneaize l'TorTon, Felcie Dickerson, and Harold Jenkins ioined our happy Throng ThaT year. Marriage seemed To be a disease in The sevenTh grade, since our Teacher, Mrs. Haskins, be- came Mrs. BuTler, and Two oT our members were married, Roy Williams, who leTT us, and Janie Clark. who became Mrs. Aiken. We ThoughT we knew everyThing unTil we enTered The eighTh grade where Mrs. MclnTosh lef us sTudy currenT evenTs and memorize poems. During ThaT year Emily l-lockaday reTurned To our class, and Willard Andrews leTT iT. AT The close oT ThaT year when we received -our reporT cards and Tound we were promoTed To high school, we were exciTed. When we enTered on ThaT brighT, sunny day in SepTember, we moved around noT knowing whaT To do wiTh ourselves, buT we soon Tound ouT. Miss Annie B. Bullock was our home room Teacher. The oThers were Miss Aiken, Miss l-lesTer,i Mr. Newell, The principal, Mrs. Galloway and Mr. Wilson. Jackie Jones, RoberT Lane, KenneTh Richardsonl and Dlolores Flowers were newcomers ThaT year. We Then became sophomores wiTh Miss EdiTh T-lall as our home room Teacher, and The oThers remaining The same. Miss l-lesTer did, however, change her name To Mrs. Bullock. We losT DoroThy EllingTon and Nell RoberTs by marriage buT gained Alma Brown. Thomas KeiTh leTT our class ThaT year To go in service. Finally, aTTer Ten long years we 'became Juniors. ThaT year was exciTing and one To be long remembered. Our school was again parTially burned. In January we'goT our class rings and gave The annual Junior-Senior BanqueT in April wiTh Memories as our Theme. We gained a new principal ThaT year. Mr. A. W. Taylor, and some new Teachers. Mr. Sidney Ray, who became The boys' baskeTball coach, and Mrs. Fleming, an ElemenTary Teacher, who coached The girls. We also wel- comed Miss Elna Mangum To our commercial deparTmenT. lncidenTally. our b-oys were counTy baskeT- ball champions ThaT year. Three oT our girls, JaneT Green, Carolyn Bowles, and Shirley MonTague, leTT us To be married. Seniors! We are really proud To have The TiTle oT DigniTied Seniors. Our long reached-Tor goal we can almosT Touch. AlThough Through The years we all have noT been TogeTher, some oT us have seen sTudenTs added To and some Taken Trom our midsT. Currin Fuller, Evelyn Brogden, Bobby Beck. RoberT Rogers, Mae Brogden, James Goss, and PaT-Tie Lou KeiTh are The only members who have been in This same school Twelve long. buT happy, years, buT we are glad To be called Seniors TogeTher. l-lisTorians: PATTIE LOU KEITH CURRIN FULLER PRUPH CY The year aller linishing high school, Deneaize l-lorlon and l wenl lo Washinglon, D. C., where we sel up a beauly salon. We had been lhere lor len years when one day, by lhe grealesl chance. we mel an old high school lriend ol ours. Mrs. Bryanl Minor, lhe lormer Miss Alma Brown. Upon inquiring we lound lhal she had a pair ol bouncing boy lwins, Pele and Repeal. She and Bryanl were planning lo lake a lrip lo Creedmoor, and she asked il we would like lo go wilh lhem. We lell lhal we needed a vacalion so we accepled lhe invilalion. As we enlered Grand Cenlral Slalion, whom should we see bul James Goss and Alene Lloyd, on lheir way lo Nashville, Tennessee, where lhey were going lo sing on lhe Grand Ole Opry and laler go lo Hollywood, where lhey would gel iobs as Musical Comedians. While lalking lo lhem, we lound lhey seemed lo know a greal deal aboul several more ol our classmales. We were lold lhal Felcie Dickerson had won lhe lille ol Miss America ol I96l, and Kennelh Richardson had laken Clark Gable's place in lhe movies. Deparling, we wenl lo gel our bags and regisler al a holel, and who should show us lo our room bul l-larold Jenkins, who was employed as bell boy. l-le lold us lhal his cousin, Pal Jenkins. was a Home Economics leacher al lhe Universily ol Norlh Carolina and was happily married. The nexl day when we slarled our lrip again we mel Rachel Coley, lhe biggesl llirl in our room. We were inlormed lhal she had linally acquired parlnership in a '50 Ford we used lo see hanging around her house. While lalking lo her we lound lhal Mae Brogden and Jackie Jones had a iob as laslers in a pie laclory and were loo lazy even lo lasle lhe pies. She also lold us lhal Dolores Flowers had a iob as model lor Currin Fuller, who was a dress designer. To my sorrow we had an accidenl and were laken lo Cure or Kill l-lospilal where Louise Elling- lon was our nurse. Louise lold us lhal Mrs. Oscar l-laskins, lhe lormer Pallie Lou Keilh. was lhe secrelary ol lhe hospilal. When all our pains were cured we decided lo slop in lo speak lo Pallie Lou a minule. She lold us lhal Emily l-lockaday was wilh lhe lair wilh lhe lille ol Miss Talkalive and she, William Mangum, and L. P. Moss were clowns in lhe same lair where lhey were doing a Flying Trapeze Acl. J. l-l. Newlon whose ambilion had always been a lraveling salesman now had a iob as adver- lising manager lor Bobby Beck, who was running a Lonely l-learl Bureau. Some ol lhe girls wriling lo him were Palsy Moss and Bobbie Grace Currin. We were lold lhal Bobbie Grace had been mar- ried, bul because ol her friendship her husband divorced her and she was now engaged lo Bernard Esles. The only reason he was engaged lo her was lhal when she asked him il he would marry her, he was loo bashlul lo say anylhing so Bobbie Grace iusl look lor granled he meanl yes. Palsy, allhough wriling lo lhe Lonely l-learls, slill had nolions ol her own. She was running aller Roberl Lane who was now driving a bus from Durham lo Bulner. She lhoughl lhal il she could gel him, she would gel lree rides. Upon our arrival in Creedmoor we discovered lhal Willred Adcock had been Chiel ol Police lor live years and Roberl Rogers had laken over his lalher's business, and Josephine Dickerson was slill working in lhe Creedmoor Five and Ten. Lasl ol all, we found Miss Aiken, our Senior home room leacher, slill al Creedmoor. She was yel making a desperale ellorl lo leach lhe sludenls good English.
