'I' w nth cobwebs and dust 1 N-.441 The class of l9l9 llke William Shakespeare passed through four drstlnct periods ln :ts development From the mlghtlest of the mlghty as we considered ourselves ln umor Hrgh we retrograded ln our Freshman year and served a period of apprenticeship lhe Seniors were our ideals Ihey recerved our 'adoration and devoted worshrp and ln return allowed us to do certaln small duties for them We however picked up more courage after our officers Manson Whittington Moon and Gauld were elected Wrth the help of these worthy officers and the faculty sponsors we gave a class party after a half year of quiet submlsslon and from thls time the members of the Class of I9 I 9 realized their Importance and were underllngs to no one The Sophomore year was our period of mastery By this trme we had cot quered our Hts of humrllty and had acquired a feellng bordering on arrogance Whelan Schlemmer Utter and Byrd were chosen our leaders We made ourselves felt ln the school thrs year by our many soclal actmtles and our pTO'Tll e of help rn other actrvltres ln the course of our career for already we had TCPTCSCHIHIIWCS rn the fields of oratory and debate The umor year may well be called a perrod of gloom On account of the lmpendlng crlsls which necessltated our nation s entrance into the war many social times had to be foregone Manson Iluff By rd Whlttlnvton and Ro ser were elected as class ofhcers The socral gatherings of the season may be summed up rn two e ents a delight ful party chaperoned by Mrss Buntmg and Mtss Fisher and a plcnlc supper given ln honor of the Seniors This plcnlc toclv the place of the umor Reception of normal times Desplte the depresslng condltlons members of our class dlstlngurshed themselves ln oratory debate basket ball and track Dramatic ablllty and lrterray talent were also drscovered rn the .Iumor Class rl he wmnlng of the war however w as the vltal thlng to be accompllshed and the members of I9 responded with alacrrty to the many new dutles necessitated by the war lnhe glrls volunteered their servrces to the Red Cross and French Relref and the boys drd not lag behlnd but enthuslastncally supported the newly formed mllltary companres and both boys and glrls were engaged ln war work during the summer vacatron A great sorrow came to l9l9 ln thelr year by the death of Gladys Thompson a classmate of splendid and lovable character We believe that her beautrful short Irfe has lnsplred us w lth a desrre to llve lrves as pure and complete as her own ln our Senlor year at the slgnmg of the armrstxce we emerged Into a period of seremtv The whole outlook of our future changed We no longer had to fear sub Jectlon and servltude at the hands of a menaclnv mllltary power Moyer Byrd Deere Malnes and Schwertzer were chosen to guide l9l9 through this Its most Important year The ending of the war acted as an lmpetus to the members of I9 to brlng honor and recognltron to their class They drd not strlve ln varn and we are Indeed proud of our laurel wmnlng athletes and our Daniel Websters w ho have become famous even luke Wllllam Shakespeare himself May they be ever as successful as they have ln their hrgh school days' - ,Q 4 .1 f 95.1, nw s 66' 2 ' I A ss, .
