Throughout the campus, students, teachers, and administrators paused fo salute our country. ule to Ole Country Each morning at eight o’clock, Colts paused a moment to salute the flag and pay tribute to our great nation. While the R.O.T.C. Color Guard raised the flag, every student solemnly stood at attention as the strains of the National Anthem were heard throughout the campus. Some students thought of friends or relatives fighting in Viet Nam, others silently thanked God for the opportunity to live and work in a free land. Everyone felt anew the privilege and respon- sibility of American citizenship. The morning flag salute was a time of inspiration, dedica- tion, and unity of spirits. In the morning sunlight, the R.O.T.C. unfolded the flag. Daily activities stopped during the flag salute.

The atmosphere of the Crawford cam- pus was one of friendli ness, enthusiasm, and intellectual rivalry. Warm laughter softened the stiff competition and the individual awareness of each student at Crawford High. 3

LX tnutes (ibe (bees Creagh Dine to Kush lo Class Late on a sunny spring morning... Only six minutes! Six precious minutes to wander from class to class —to hunt for buried books, rumpled gym clothes, and squashed sack lunches or to work frantically on a locker combination. Frequently, it took the entire break for the cross-campus jogs from the 800 building to the isolated bunga- lows by the gymnasium. With 3,500 Colts rushing out of class, the stairways and passageways seemed smaller and more crowded than in previous years. But the spirit of Crawford was intensified as the corridors rang with the warm laughter, shouts, and greetings of the friendly Colts. ia a nae: During lunch, there was time for socializing on the quad steps. : abi Colts began the long trek to a class across campus.
