They wash up on the coast to see what life has in store. Some come in as strong waves which roll along beautifully and crash onto the beach greeting life with all they have. Others are the calm water that ride on to shore on the tails of one more powerful. So meet life head on — CATCH THE WAVE! WAVES OF EMOTION Waves of emotion roll wildly through our lives. One minute they are calm and at other times the waves are crashing against the shore, Waves are uncontrollable things just as teenagers sometimes are. v as One’s emotions can often help one go through life’s endeavors. So shut out the world for just a while and CATCH THE WAVE with Crawford County High. Filiz Ates Terry Battle . ia A Alfreda V. Blasingame Benessa L. Mrs. Bassett and her husband, Dr. B.J. Bassett, live in Roberta. Mrs. Bassett is active in many community and church activities and is a member of PAGE, Phi Delta Kappa, and Delta Kappa Gamma. EXCHANGE STUDENT Brigitte Alexandra ‘‘Mike”’ Michelle Liers is the daughter of Erich and Cerda Liers. She is from Bremen West-Germany and is currently living with Robert Atkinson and family. Brigitte’s father, Erich, is a salesman for a candy firm. Her mother is a housewife. Brigitte has two sisters, Marion, 28, and Manika, 29. Brigitte has previously completed high school in Germany. She is in the process of writing a novel about her favorite occupation which is being a stuntman. Brigette speaks six different languages. She speaks German, English, French, Spanish, Norwegian, and Chinese. Her hob- bies include fencing, archery, shooting (bow and arrow), riding horses, reading, writing letters, playing the guitar and singing. Her favorite sports include table tennis (ping-pong), bad-mitten tennis, and soccer. Brigitte attends the Roberta Methodist church and sings in the choir. Her favorite movie stars are Gene Kelly and Doris Day. Her favorite singer is Bruce Springsteen. Brigitte has traveled to the U.S. before and other countries including Norway, Austria, Holland, England, and Ire- land. Brigette says that she enjoys it here in Roberta. She feels the people in Roberta are friendly and easygoing. We at Crawford County High feel the same about her and would like to wish her lots of luck in the future in everything that she does. EXCHANGE STUDENT sn Jeannine Madeleine Wanner is from Beggingen, Switzerland. She is living with our very own quid- ance counselor, Miss Thorton. Her family in Switzerland consists of father Hansuli, mother Margrit, grandmother Trudi, and grandfather Hans. Her parents own an electrical business and her grandparents own a farm. Beqgingen, her village, is a small one of ap- proximately 460 inhabitants. Like most villages in Switzerland, Beqgingen is located in the valley of a mountain. Because Beggingen is so small, Jeannine must catch a bus to the city in order to go to school. Her school ‘‘Kantonsschule Schaff hausen,”’ has about 1200 students. When asked about the differences between our school and hers, she said, ‘The work here easier, but the discipline is much more strict.’’ After returning to Switzerland, she must go to high school for two additional years. Unlike the students here, Jeannine can speak four different languages — Swiss German, French, Italian, and English. She is presently taking Spanish while attending our school. She has adapted very well to our ways. She is a varsity cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. She attends the Roberta United Methodist Church. Her hobbies include hiking, skiing, and skating. In Switzerland, she liked to go to the cafes. The most popular cafe for teens is the ‘‘Fronwagplatz”’. Although the size differs greatly, the cafe can be compared to our mall in the respect as a hang-out spot for teens. She does not watch much tele- vision but enjoys movies. We were enriched by her visit and we wish her well in her future endeavors. We will miss her dearly. Times we've spent together, Both doing good and bad, Ill remember them all Both the happy and the sad. The books we've all read The works we've all done As soon as we think it’s over, The race has just bequn. The distance that lies before us, The hurdles we must overcome It seems just like yesterday, When our cares were little or none. My friends, | must say to you that my poem is all through, | wish you the best in life and In all that you hope to do.
