CRAWFORD COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL AnMA,KANeAe February 15, 1944 Dear Bulldogs The school year of 1943 44 has experienced hard problems to solve Not the least of these pro blems is the one concerning the World War II Many pupils wonder what the world has in store for them and what good slaving over dry high school subjects can ever accompl s You have worked, played, fought won, and have been de feated this year In all of these you have dis covered something about yourself that you did not know before In your school work you have found many things to ponder over The War has create new names, new products and new ideas We are hearing about things now that were unknown three years ago Old things have been revived an fitted into our lives and in these things your future can be found An unsettled frontier no longer exists on our western side, but larger, greater, and more im- portant frontiers break forth every day in war and peace, medicine, science, industry, transpor- tation, agriculture and host of others. R. 2-3 E is ass iflslory Back in the memorable year of 1940, a group of timid boys and girls appeared at C C H S , to begin their high school career with eager and unexperienced anticipation Thrilled by the knowledge that they were in high school, but frightened at the seniors' horror tales of initiation, the freshies took their place in the activities of our school Irene Ballock and Linus McDonald were selected to represent the Freshman Class in the contest for King and Queen of the Crawzette The pep and enthusiasm of this group increased during the sophomore year We were happy to welcome Miss Schroeder and Mr Gilmour to our faculty Velma Serena and Ralph Eames were candidates for Crawzette King and Queen As this year quickly passed we eagerly awaited the next two years of school life This year Enrollment day in September, 1942, showed that many members of the old crowd had returned to finish their high school career The new faculty members that we gladly welcomed were Miss Jallace, Miss Mann and Miss Hewitt This year we had an all school play in stead of the usual Junior Play The play was a great success, and the funds received were used for a Junior and Senior Banquet September, 1945, sees enrollment again Now we are classified as 'dignified seniors Being seniors we participated in the publication of the Bulldo Chronicle and Memories of 1944 This year Mr Rowland, ho was formerly vlce prlnclpal, was made superin tendent of the school Again we welcomed four new teachers Miss Kilger, Miss Norman, Miss Hilbert and Miss Hammond To raise money to purchase a farewell gift for the school, e sponsored an annual Senior Play, 'Galloping Ghosts' a mystery comedy in three acts coached by Miss Norman Our four high school years have been happy and educational and we hope that the future holds the same for the graduating class of 1944 IO GI L ' ..' 1 . I O O I our sponsors were Miss Schilling and Mr. Naccarato. V II . . ' - . I , - IO J wry It seems that everyone in the world today is doing things they would not necessarily do in peace time Working by me at the Stage Door Canteen are Orpha Jones, the famous song writer, Lanora linelli, who started as Dottie Lamour's stand in, but is now a star herself and the famous blues singer, Georgette Casella We believe in the idea of every one working, even the entertainers we have for the evening Therefore, if you looked in the kitchen, you would find Lee Caput, the 'adolescent' band leader, and his drummer boy, Elmer Menghini, doing about a million dishes While we were reminiscing about old times, a red haired sergeant walked in, and we immediately recognized him to be Eugene Bordln He was on his way home to see his wife, the former Marie Caput He told us that Velma Serena is studying ballet in Chicago, and that Marguerite Paulin her roommate, is teaching in a school for the blind also that Mary Ann DeBoutez is a Cpl in the WACS and Anna Mae Burgin is now in the SPARS Just then Rosalie Noor came in from the swing shift and informed us that Mrs Joe Timi, who also helped at the Canteen, had just got the news that Joe had been awarded the D F C for heroism in the South Pacific Mrs Timi is the former Betty Schirmer This even1ng's enter tain ent was a tap dance by Dorothy Yoger and Kenny Maniez, two more of our old school chums They informed us of the whereabouts of many more of our former classmates Margaret Godel has entered the 4 H Club work in Oregon Mary Jane Tolliver has a health resort in Montana that can cure anyone that just thinks they're sick, Julia Nolimal has taken up South Ameri a way It's rumored that one of the objects is to find her self a man with an accent her weakness For a time we were busy, but soon we noticed some Nurse Cadets whom we quickly recognized as Jean Blessant Irene Ballock Wilma Burgin, and Betty Jean Ales This is their last night in New York City, as they are leaving for overseas duty tomorrow They love their work and tried to get us interested in it lWe're too squeamish at the sight of blood D When Dorothy Green, riveter, came to work this evening, she waved aloft a letter that contained news of more of our friends Chester Anastasi had taken up deep sea diving, but it made him seasick so he quit and de cided to try marriage awhile The happy bride is his neighbor, Orlanda Manci He is now known as the 'funniest man on radio' and he and his wife are making a tour of all the army camps on a bicycle built for two with a trailer tied on behind Norman Cinotto, who decided he could swim farther than he could fly, has joined the navy and is taking his boot training Adelia Crosaglia, who married for money, has decided it wasn't worth it and is enjoying her stay in Reno, from there she will go into Ringling Brothers Circus to continue her acrobatlc performances August Bogina is the hero of the younger generation of Arma, because he started the Empress Theatre with admission of lOd a couple The school secretary is Wanda Pousher however she is joining the WAVES next month Tim Scott is studying to be a doctor, and Pearl Jones has taken up the art of teaching Billie J Giles has taken advantage of the manpower shortage and has started a newspaper in Kansas City Frank Pichler has at last found his profession, that of a driver of racing cars He and his wife, the former Ida Mae LaBenne, are at present residing in Tampa, Florida QShe will take up his work when he enters the army D Playboy Tom Ramey who is stationed in Ohio, wrote that every girl within fifty miles simply swoons when he smiles at them Paul Giovapnoli has made himself known in the world by inventing a plastic bicycle that folds down into the size of a compact Ten years from now we hope to renew old acquaintances again II Q ' f ' D i interior decorating, and Minnie Blue is making a good will tour down 9 SENIOR Lanora Minelli Velma Serena Marie Caput Marguerite Paulin Georgette Casella Billie Laine Julia Nolimal Minnie Blue Mary Ann DeBoutez Dorothy Green Orlanda Manci Dorothy Yoger Betty Jean Ales Wilma Burgin Margaret Godel Adelia Crosaglia Billie Jean Giles Timothy Scott Norman Cinotto Chester Anastasi Tom Ramey Frank Pichler Kenneth Maniez Orpha Jones Rosalie Noor Eugene Bordin Ida Mae La Benne Lee Caput Joe Timi Anna Mae Burgin Elmer Menghini Irene Ballock Wanda Pousher Jean Blessant Mary Jane Tolliver Pearl Jones August Bogina Paul Giovagnoli Clan W!!
