HERBERT TAYLOR The Senior Class dedicates this 1954 CRANSTONIAN to C. Herbert Taylor, Principal since 1935 of Cranston High School. Mr. Taylor came to Cranston after four years as Principal of Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine, having previously served for six years as Assistant Principal of the Brookline, Massachusetts, High School. A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a graduate student at Harvard, he holds a master's degree in edu- cation from Bates College. For upwards of twenty years he has held ollice in the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the New England Council. He is at present serving as chairman of the Athletes' Accident Benefit Fund for the New England Association. Here in Rhode Island he has been on the Executive Board of the Round Robin Athletes' Injury Fund from its beginning, has served the Rhode Island Secondary School Principals Association as president, and is currently chairman of the Athletic Committee and Co-Commissioner of Football and Basketball. Active in the Barnard Club of Rhode Island and the Cranston Chapter of Rotary, he has been president of both. And he has been a tireless worker in the Parent-Teacher Association at both the local and the state level, as well as in the National Educational Association on the national level. Cranstonites have always felt that it is a distinct honor for the school as well as for Mr. Taylor that he should be one of a very few public high school prin- cipals the country over to have been elected to membership in the Headmasters' Asso- ciation, an organization of nationwide scope and prestige. This account of the services that Mr. Taylor has rendered and the honors that have come to him makes no claim to completeness but does at least explain why the students of Cranston High School rejoice over his promotion to Assistant Superintendent. 5 1 1, fw 4,1 MR. VT .O Jock, the Comet, Maggiacorno 90 The Green and White in Action 1953 Although our 1953 football team did not attain the Class A Championship this year, we all feel that they were the champions when it came to school spirit. Despite the fact that they got off to a slow start, they soon proved that under the able coaching of Ed Stebbins and his excellent assistants, they were the team to beat. Since most of the first string team was composed of juniors, we can be sure that the 1954 team will again take the Class A Championship. However, more important than that, let us all hope that they will carry on with the same sportsman attitude and retain the respect which our 1953 football team did so much to establish. Because of the good hard play- ing of the boys and the excellent coaching of Ed Stebbins and his assistants the team achieved the reputation of being one of the more important teams to beat. They built up a record of which any school or team could be proud. Also our hats are off to the managers and the students and faculty members who made it so easy for us to see the games away from home. In spite of the loss of several good players through graduation, Cranston High may look for another good team next year. 97 Row 4: M. Wicklund, V. Seavor, L. Graichen, N. Reid, D. Sundquist, N.
