PRINCIPAL Mr. C. Herbert Taylor STRANGER COMING to Cranston High School might wonder who was the distinguished looking gentleman so frequently seen in our halls, but no Cranston- ite could fail to recognize him as our principal. Mr. C. Herbert Taylor. The students know him for their friend and look to him for guidance and understanding in their high school careers. Not only has he won great admiration for his skill as a principal and a teacher but has made a name for himself in the promotion of interscholastic athletics. Last year, for instance, during the campaign to abolish interscholastic sports, Mr. Taylor voiced the opinion of students throughout the State when he took a stand for the retention of sports as a prominent and valuable part of student life. This action is ty pical of Mr. Taylor for it shows both his thorough understand- ing of the student point of View and his courage in speaking out for what he be- lieves right. 5

DEDICATION c l Mr. H. Howard Wardwell THP1 CLASS of 1949 dedicates this Cranstonian to Mr. H. Howard Wardwell in sincere appreciation of his unassuming role as teacher of chemistry and physics and coach of track. In and out of the classroom he has as a teacher always shown a readiness to help the student in difficulty and a quiet manner and patient under- standing that have increased his popularity. He has developed many All-State stars who testify to his coaching skill and have brought honor to Cranston High School. To his other distinctions he has this year added the advisorship of the, Student Court. 4
