Iln fllvmnriam HATTIE MARIA HOLT THE memory of one who was at the same time friend. counselor, and teacher will linger long with those who knew Miss Hattie M. Holt, for many years head of the Latin department of Cranston High School. In her classes she ever strove to instill a deep appreciation of the classics which she loved so dearly. As senior class adviser, Miss Holt was always willing to lend a hand when needed or to offer some helpful suggestion. Indeed, hers was a life of true service and devotion. EVELYN LOUISE RICHARDSON WHEN Miss Richardson graduated from Pem- broke prepared for teaching, she was happy to choose her Alma Mater, Cranston High School. After a year as student instructor in the history de- partment, she became a regular member of our faculty in the fall of 1939. Miss Richardson loved teaching and she will always be remembered for her quiet, persevering devotion to her work. 110.- HHSSES Q 5 1, '2 s Hic locus est, partis ubi se via iindit in ambas. -Virgil THERE are three ages oi man at Cranston High School. First is the lowly, but enthusiastic Sophomore whom the abrupt change from Iunior High importance to Senior High obscurity has left somewhat bewildered. Then comes the aspiring Iunior, seasoned now to the routine. and already eying cap and gown. Last behold the mighty Senior, poised. assured. awaiting graduation and new worlds to conquer. Soon other feet will iollow the path that once he trod: another generation will maintain Cranston prowess, for Seniors come and Seniors go, but the school goes on-forever. 19110 82 Mftclfy 1940 PRESIDENT DONALD MICHAEL DWYER, L'Donnie 5 4 Rhodes Avenue , Scientific Donnie is that popular, fun-loving fellow who is known to all both for his athletic and his executive ability. His excellent leadership of our Champ' ionship Football Team, in addition to his commendable work on the hockey and baseball teams, has earned him a place in Cranston's Hall of Fame. Atlil. HIS year marks the twentieth birthday of the Cranston High School Parent Teacher Associaf tion. We have grown with the school. Our membership and average attendance this year have exceeded those of past years. It is well at this anniversary to give credit to the men and women who have been responsible for the achievements of these past twenty years. The band we enjoy, the radio system, many of the books in our library, the pictures on the school walls, the silver tea set, and many other pieces of school equipment were provided by their labors. For eighteen of these years honor pins have been purchased and presented to graduating classes by the Association. A helping hand has been given to many of the school clubs by donations of both time and money. In turn the Students have cofoperated with our organization and many of our meetings have been enlivened by their participation. This is particularly true of our musical groups. In December of this year we had our Fathers Night, our most spectacular meeting, when Governor and Mrs. William H. Vanderbilt were guests, with over five hundred members and friends present. L'Mother's Afternoon, an innovation, was held in January, and girls of the Home Economics department served tea and modeled clothes, while Miss Ruth Cowles gave a most practical talk on Clothes for Personality. The biennial election comes in May, and the present oihcers will be replaced by a new and capable slate. Cur wish for them is the same pleasant associations we have had and the continued support of you, the Students of Cranston High School. To the graduating classes-we wish you happiness, for with that comes success. PAULINE S. GOULD, President. is If CRANSTON 0 HIGH I SCHO0L 84 'P T 2, s K. Three cheers for this year's Green Thunderbolt! Led by perhaps the greatest captain Cranston ever had, this team swept on to the state championship in spite of one defeat. Starting with a squad composed largely of Juniors, Coach Stebbins built up a team that played almost perfect football and will always be remembered as one of the greatest teams ever to wear the Green and White. While some individuals were outstanding, Cranston functioned largely as a smooth machine. Cranston placed three men on the mythical All Rhode Island team: Captain and halfback, Donnie Dwyer, guard, Russ Bennettg and end, Georgie Warburton. Several others received hon' orable mention and many more deserved it. The cofcaptains elected for next year are Russ Bennett and quarterback Billy Mathews.
