The Spntliglgt Page I-'ifty-Flve H ll Uhr Evhatmg Qlluh Faculty Advzser MR MORNEWECK O F F I C E R S P1es1denf DOROTHY CREMERIUS Secretary OLGA SPI-:cH'r Vlce President ROBERT CRUDEN Treasurer AL1 AN Woonwlum A HE Debating Ciub was organized last September under the direction of Mr Morn weck li- The work of the club dunno' the first semester was mainly m the way of practice debates among the members At the begmmnv of the second semester the real work began The two varslty teams were selected one affirmative and one negative and immediately they started to collect material on the question for interscholastic debates The Wild Muriel Mowen El anor Morris Carrxe McCaull Meredith Conley Cora Babcock and Farris Swackhamer The quest or th1S year was Resolved that chain stores are a detriment to the best interests of the American people The interscholastic debates were with the following schools Newark Central Hiffh Bound Brook Metuchen Somerville Scotch Plains Ro elle Roselle Park Llnden and Westfield There was also the annual Junior Senior debate which this year was won by the Seniors At this debate Muriel Mowen was awarded the medal for beinff the best debater We won tw lve out of th fourteen s heduled debates Most of them were dual debates The negative team lost to Bound Brook and the aflirmative to Lmden The Linden debate was for the County Championship Linden havmv won first place 1n their leaffue and Cranford first place ln our lea ue In the final d bate we lost to Linden by a two to one declslon Tue other members of the club are Ja k Kulrn Robert Northcutt Jane Stanger Mary Scott Robert Bxlllnffslx William Braedon and Mars Dohoney The members of th teams haxe been award d letters and pins l h avg., ' ' ' ' ' . e . :.E5.fflE:,4 .
