Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1970 volume:

This is Our Heritage the Spirit of Independence Crane public schools as seen from the C hill. Why rebuild in the desert? We believe a public boarding school fills a valid need in die Eastern Oregon desert. We want the school here and are willing to support it. CRANE UNION HIGH SCHOOL CRANE, OREGON 9773? Table of Contents Introduction pg. i Classes Pg.6 Sports Pg. 19 Activities-Organizations Pg. 41 Student Body Pg. 50 Social Life Pg. 58 Advertising Pg. 71 2 Superintendent’s Message In these days of turmoil and unrest, two of mankind's most cherished ideals-liberty and freedom, are being challenged. It is with this in mind that I write this message. The students of Crane Union High School need not take a back seat to anyone, for they are as well prepared academically and socially as any other group of students. Believe in yourselves and in your school, for your school is no better than what you want it to be. Each one of you need to add your contribution to the developing of the spirit of Crane Union High School. The patrons of Crane Union High School are proud of the institution that goes to make up the community. They have given you the finest facilities possible. It behooves us as a part of this community to be proud of our people and to show this attitude by making the best use possible of the fine facilities provided by the patrons. We must also achieve to our greatest potential as individuals in order that these facilities are not wasted. We owe to ourselves, to the teachers, to the students that are to come after us and to the community a debt that can be paid only by leaving Crane Union High School, a better school after we are gone, than it was before we came here. When our forefathers wrote the Constitution of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights, they made certain Citizenship and fought to establish this priceless heritage. Let us live in the future in such a way that this priceless heritage will not be forgotten and that those who remain behind will say when we return, welcome home . 3 Faculty Mr. Johnson; Industrial Arts, Basketball Coach, JV Football Coach, Drivers Ed, Sophomore Advisor, C Club Advisor. We feel that our school isn't simply different, but it is unique in it's own way. We are proud of that way and are not ashamed of it. We don't care what people think of our school in that instance. We know ourselves what our school really is, and it is up to us to make it known to others what it is. We are INDEPENDENT, we understand what life is all about before we graduate more so than graduates from other schools. We, not only the students, but also the faculty and staff, feel that money and status is not the important thing. The important thing is that we are treated as individuals, not as a mass. At Crane we are treated as individuals! 70 The desert serves to make a man withdraw and become little or it makes him big. Looking toward the Steens from top of Stinkwater mountain.
