l STA Ai6 I960 Crane Union High School Crane, Oregon Dedication To the Hanson family we, the annual staff, dedicate the 1960 Mustang. Many thanks to Mr. Hanson for his outstanding services to our school during the past three years, and to the entire family for services extended to promote school activities and to serve as an inspiration to all future community representatives. 3 Index FOREWORD .........................................4 ADMINISTRATION.....................................6 DORM LIFE..........................................8 SENIOR CLASS.......................................10 JUNIOR CLASS.......................................15 SOPHOMORE CLASSl...................................20 DORM LIFE.......................................... 22 FRESHMAN CLASS.....................................24 SPORTS.............................................26 ACTIVITIES......................................... 32 GRADE SCHOOL....................................... 39 ADVERTISEMENTS.....................................42 Foreword We, the members of the Mustang staff, have strived to make the 1960 Mustang a memory of the 1959-60 school years at Crane Union High School. We hope that all the students of Crane High School will have memories of a pleasant year spent in our school and will carry with them always the things that they have learned here. 4 Hats Off” Says Principal Lindquist ORVILLE LINDQUIST B. S. State Teachers College, Minot, North Dakota. M.S. U. of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Compliments go to the annual staff and their advisor for this 1960 annual. It is wonderful to have a lasting memory of school days with school activities combined together in one place such as a school annual. School without activities would be, in my esti- mation, of no value and activities with no school would also be valueless. Therefore, actual academic learning and activities work hand in hand without actually realizing the effort and time it takes to make the two a worthwhile combination. It takes patience, perseverance, a will to do, a will to learn and interest on the part of the student, teacher, parent and board of education to make the school an effective, workable unit. Hats off again to the annual staff, and may due recognition be given each individual, group or anyone making our school a better place to grow. Senior Class Prophecy On May 13, 1980, I Mary Lewis, the world's richest old maid, walked into the highest class beauty salon in Salt Lake City. At the beauty salon, Dot's Beauty Bar, I was greeted by the smiling face of Dorthy Opie, a former classmate. After a long conversation and a new hair style Dorthy and I decided we would look up our old classmates. My private pilot Bill Clark, decided he was the one to take Dorthy and me to see all our old classmates. Bill was doing private piloting for a hobby. In 1964 Bill had built a new model plane and had broken the sound barrier. Our plane was grounded in San Francisco due to heavy smog. We decided to attend the East-West All-Star Football game. Dorthy and I decided we wanted an autograph of the winning coach. After the West defeated the East 45-12 Dot and I made a dive for the shower rooms to get the autograph. The West's coach turned out to be Gary Defenbaugh. We were invited to his home for the night and there we were greeted by his wife, the former Marj Miler. After our stay with the Defenbaughs we could see that Marj was the Homemaker of Today. Hearing that another classmate was in New York we headed eastward. We stopped in Chicago to see the world famous daredevil motorcyclist, Clara Basiley, the former Clara Holloway. After a few thrills and spills Clara said a hurried good-by and was on her way to a nite show in Los Angeles. Heading on to New York we landed at the Idlewild Airport to be greeted by Mary Warden, head stewardess for the Pan-American Airlines. Mary showed us a fabulous night in the glamorous city before we headed for the old Stomping Grounds of Crane. After leaving our plane in Vale we motored to Drewsey to look up another classmate. We were run into the barpitt by a county truck. The driver of the truck was Charlotte Northrup. Charlotte told us that Darrell was home sick and she was filling in doing the road work for the county. She said Darrell was taking care of their ten kids at home. Leaving Charlotte and resuming our trip we had a flat tire about two miles from Crane. Having no spare we walked to the nearest ranch. After several loud knocks we were finally heard above the squealing pigs and bawling children. The door was opened by Mrs. Ken Rossburg, the former Beulah Smith. Beulah lent us her Model A to resume our journey. After a visit to the old stomping grounds and finding everything still the same we decided our trip had been worth our while. Dorthy's beauty salon and my oil wells were needing our attention so we went our separate ways.
