Just as knowledge, of itself, with- out action is of little value so is action without the proper knowledge of what should be done. It is our earnest hope that all students of the Crane Technical High School, and particularly its graduates, will be able to make the desirable combination of head and hand that leads to a full and happy lite. We hope this motto will serve as a worthy guide to all Crane students as they take their places as men in the important work ot the world. NEAL DUNCAN Principal ADMINISTRATION I X... Their showing of one win out of five official competition games was not as good as was expected. Although we came far from top- ping our section we were in there pitching all the time. Too much confidence was placed on the fact that there were many veter- an players on the team. During the next season we will have a completely new line up, and perhaps we can achieve the top position. We know that the team will always be fighting under the leadership of Coach Horschlce. Borelli and Miss Mills Always striving to give the students a better paper, ambitious Techmen of the Crane Tech Chronicle meet twice a week to ex- change ideas, and plan assignments and worlc out layout problems under the editorial guidance of Miss Margaret Mills. The print shop is res- ponsible for three linotype machines for the news co- lumns as well qs hand set type for head lines and one printing press. After the news has been set up it is thoroughly proof read by the staff and the press- men for each error. Which if there are any are cor- rected. Boys who meet the re- quirements are awarded gold pins and win member- ship in Quill and Scroll the International Honor Society for high school journalist. Kehoe Mr. Kehoe, Bender, Woiniclci, Botes, Bennett ,, ' Mr. Thomas, Mr. Golden CONCERT BAND The Crane Band is composed of over fifty- four talented and industrious students who meet each day under the direction of Mr. Maurice Golden. Practically none of the members had music instruction until they came to Crane. To be in the band a stu- dent does not have to own an instrument for the school furnishes them to those in- terested. The average student spends one semester in the intermediate band and then is ready for the concert band. The band plays for assemblies, football games, P.T.A. meetings and other special events. Every year there is a contest in which all high school bands enter. For the past years the Crane Band has held an average rating of E or better and maintains a high standard of music. After being in the concert band for four semesters and having played at more than three occasions a student receives a maior letter. Concert Band Band Rehearsal A- ,mfg 36 C, THE CHORUS 4 National Senior Honor Society SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship is the basic element upon which entrance into the Owls Honor Soci- ety is determined. Membership is open to all who have received an S in each of their subjects for the final mark. ln order to receive the membership pin each mem- ber must attend mornings as a before- school teacher. Coming every morning to help students who have trouble with their subiects and being present for a total of thirty days, a student receives his membership card and pin. This society tends to raise the stan- dards of Crane as a whole. It is under the slcillful guidance of Miss Dorothy Lit- tleton. The Junior Honor Society like the Senior Honor Soci- ety was founded years ago. Giving the lower classmen a chance, it is composed of the students in the gra- des of IA to 3B. These are the boys who have, during their previous se- mesters obtained grades af either E or S in their 'major subiects and no less than G in their minors. National Junior Honor Society For almost a quarter of a century, one of the outstanding organizations at Crane has been the National Honor Society. This or- ganization is composed of upperclassmen who have consistently demonstrated the four qualities of, character, scholarship, leadership and service. To be eligible for membership a boy must have a trait rating of at least 'l.5, a scholastic average of at least 3.00 and a record of service in sev- eral school organizations. lt is the purpose of the National Honor Society to raise the standards of the school as a whole. This Society is affiliated with the National organization, and is under the sponsorship of Miss Mary O'Connor.
