Crane students are required to take two years of this subject. This course of Algebra 1 and 2. and Geometry l and 2. provides the students with a subsequent amount of reasoning so that when he leaves here, the world outside will not seein a total blank to him. He is not. however. required to continue this course after two years. The students who wish to proceed to college are offered advanced courses in Math. such as: Algebra 3. Geometry 3. Trigonometry. and last but not least. College Math. When the student completes these successfully. hc may rest assured that his college career will not be as strenuous as hc at first figured. Crane proudly boasts as having some of the finest Math teachers in the City. and not many students are allowed to unconscientiously stray off the subject. therefore they Hman' Au.:-:N JEAN BARILEAUX Rtrn Bmtwm Atmo BICKNL-:tt KARIN BJURKIAENID l t.ox'n BROWN RAYMOND llu'rt.r:lt TIIERUN CHANEY EGLIH I An extensive vocabulary. and a fiuent manner of speech are traits much sought after by the English Department along with a knowledge of our literature. In order to bring out the student's knowledge of this. the grammatical matter is delved into for the first ten weeks. which is followed by an introduction to the classics. and to the writer and style of our day. The two main divisions of English. which are Prose and Poetry are the main discussion points in the course. We cannot possibly hope to fulfill these duties without a complete knowledge of our present instittltions and the under- standing of how tl-ey have come to be what they are. These include German. Italian, Latin. and Spanish. It is required that the student have at least four semesters in one field of language. In order to study a nation's behavior. we must study its habits and language. Unless we do this we will not find ourselves fully prepared to meet the challenge offered by the strife and unrest which is so prevalent in the world today. f In order to fully comprehend many personal situations in our dealings of the future in business. science or politics, it is imperative that one possess fine linguistic ability. 13 THE PHYSICAL A D BIOLOGlC L CIE CE J. G P In a sense, the draftsman is the root of all structural and architectural work. His phase in the vast industry of develop- ing and building is proving the working drawing. which must be used as is a formula to produce the finished product. The drawings must be accurate. thus neatness and accuracy is a must. All this, under the able supervision of Mr. Edwin Salter. is being taught to the architects of tomorrow at Crane. Even though music is considered as a minor subject, the music department continues to play a major role in Crane's career seekers. Many choral and music groups have evolved from it and thus the Crane choir and chorus have majestically participated in many assemblies. Miss Grace Diaz. heading the commercial drawing class, has done a terrific job having her boys paint colorful signs for all clubs and social events which decorate the halls. Stu- dents are offered freehand drawing, and commercial drawing in their fifth semester, but may choose an elective as an alternate. 16 training which they receive today is the progress that America will receive tomorrow. Reuni- son and Chaney, the members conduct their own demonstrations. Valuable lecturing experience is gained while ou the other hand, the boys receive a vast store of knowledge on subjects that would not otherwise be taken up in the class- room. This group of boys has been doing a wonderful job in upholding t1raue's long recognized tradition of keeping broken locker thefts down to a trifle mininunu. ln a manner of speaking. it is a branch of the hall guards. acting under the capable leadership of Mr. Swintek. The C. B. l. also participates in maintaining ordnance in and out of the school during classes. Likewise. the boys are asked to remain in the Supreme Courtroom to quell disorder. should any occur during thc course of a senteucc. Upon being inducted into the organization. the boy must show a reasonable scholastic average and character trait rating. 66 Q '1'1ll' 11l'i1Il1' 1'1l1llI11'l' 111' 1111' N.1111111.1 1111111 s1l1l11Y, 11 111 1 1s 11111 11 11l'6lll1'.S 11111s1 l11'11g1'1'ssi11 111g.1n11.1111111s, ls 1111 0x1 IIQIV1 11111, lll1'lll 111-1's11i1 1111111-1' 2181111111111 1 1 ll 11 n 110 '14 4B dlll P 7 S1'll11'S11'I'S.
