Monger came to Craigsville High School as coach in 1950 when we entered as Freshmen. For the past two years he has been our principal. His friendliness, loyalty, patience, understanding, and integrity have endeared him to our Senior Class. It is with pride that we dedicate the 1954 edition of the Blue Tornado to him. And built a character fine and strong--now the corner stone is laid. What shall we build upon it? This foundation straight and strong. Our parents and teachers have set us right--now how can we go wrong? We wish to thank each one who helped us on our way. Who led us with unerring hand to where we are today. We three seniors - Angie Campbell, Evelyn Keller, and Patsy Meeks have gotten our heads together, consulted the tea leaves, read palms, and interpreted the cards for our classmates. We are able to find out exactly what each of us will be doing in 1964. Wallace Buchanan is the president of William Mary College; he relaxes by playing the latest boogie woogie on his custom made piano. Douglas Claytor is the new manager of the Yankees - looks like he will have to fight it out with the Dodgers again this year. Doris Buchanan and her husband, Charles, were chosen the Master Farm Family of Virginia this year. Doris has changed her liking for overalls to dresses now! Barbara Clark, who has been attending Dramatic School in New York, has gone to Hollywood - Marilyn Monroe had better watch out or Barbara will be getting her roles. Betty Colvin lives rather close - she is kept busy looking after Andy and Andy, Jr. in Goshen, Charles Clements is a pediatrician (children under 12) - Imagine Dr. Charles and the infants ! Jerry Colvin has fooled us all - he is a bachelor who keeps his own apartment on Fifth Avenue; he earns his living by being a Wall Street Broker. Holly Colvin is a missionary in Africa - her husband is District Superintendent of the Congo. Janet Colvin has taken over Ruth ' s Beauty Shoppe in Craigsville. Nellie Downey is Personnel Manager at Stillwater Worsted Mills - she keeps peace between employer and employee at Augusta Springs, Craigsville, and Goshen. Nettie Doyle now wears the title of Mrs. and has three little ones to keep her busy. She is very active in the Home Demonstration Club, P.T.A. and Presbyterian Church. Doris Jackson is teaching Shorthand and Typing at Dunsmore Business College. Alton Fix makes pictures for Warner Brothers - he prefers to shoot westerns in 3-D. Walter Johnson has changed his quiet ways - he plays a trumpet in his own jazz band. Shirley Lawhorn is an army nurse and is taking care of wounded soldiers in Russia. Alice Massie is secretary to the Governor of Virginia - she sings with Broad Street Choir, also. Charlotte Nichols is teaching Algebra at a new consolidated school in Alaska. Wayne Pettry and Sally have tied the knot and are living at Estaline Acres. Lina Robertson, who kept everyone laughing in Journalism, is top comedienne on the Colgate Hour. Marilyn Oscar is the teacher on TV ' s Ding Dong School - all the children love her. Caroline Smith is a WAF officer - she trains the new recruits. Josephine Sours is drawing a comic strip for the Richmond Times Dispatch. Dorothy Sprouse is a special agent for the F.B.I. Ruth Strickler is airline hostess on Transcontinental Lines - she makes flights to all cities. Faye Tyree is running for Delegate in the House of Representatives from her district - she got the yen for politics while attending Girl ' s State in 1953. Charlotte Via has taken over Lucille Ball ' s program on Television. Louise Weaver is a nurse in Brazil - you should hear her sound off in Spanish. Angie Campbell is a lieutenant in the WAVES; her special assignment is teaching the new Waves how to treat service men - particularly the Army. EvelynKeller is top star in the Metropolitan Opera - you can see and hear her every Sunday afternoon over NBC. Patsy Meeks is head nurse of Norfolk General Hospital. Who would have thought in June of 1954 that the thirty seniors who graduated then would have followed such varied careers and would have been so famous and successful?
